- Concrete industry is not a simple construction industry consuming of resources and discharging of environmental impact but a sustainable development industry to switch the paradigm as part of environmental conservation and maintenance activities.
Recently, According to the assessment result of greenhouse gas emissions of building materials input during building construction, Concrete is one of the leading building materippeared more than about 95% of total greenhouse gas emissions alongal a with steel, glass, paint, insulation. In accordance with the 70% of ratio by concrete, the development of techniques and methods for reducing greenhouse gas emissions is required.
With regard to the environmental impact of concrete, there are many pollution problem importantly considered as well as global warming (greenhouse gas).
SO2 and NOx known as factors affecting the acidification is specified as a factor that affects the human health and defined as the air environment managed. Therefore, it is necessary to consider a wide range of environmental impact substances as well as a greenhouse gas. At present, the research of concrete is concentrated in the improvement of physical performance such as cracking suppressed and strength, durability of the concrete.
However, as for interest increases of the environmental impact by the production and use of concrete, environmentally friendly concrete development has been noted. Therefore, it is essential for the transition sustainable concrete industry in an effort to evaluate and reduce of environmental impact during the concrete production and use.
Various studies have been conducted to assess and reduce the environmental impact of concrete for this reason. However, the current domestic situation is not an exaggeration to say that most of research was concentrated the development of evaluation and reduction technologies greenhouse gases in the environmental impact substances.
The concrete research considering the evaluation technology costs of component materials and energy, durability is very incomplete. It is has been recognized the significance for various environmental impacts emitted in the production of concrete on the ecosystem.
The purpose of this study is the development of eco-efficiency assessment method linked to environmental load emissions and production costs and the durability of the concrete production process.
Eco-efficiency is a method for producing an environment-friendly concrete having high durability and minimum the environmental impact and cost as an advanced concept to evaluate the environment-friendly for concrete. It is a vision of this study to contribute to the realization environment-friendly concrete and to sought effectively assess method the sustainability of concrete.
