Abstract
The world's fastest growing rapidly changing market in order to have a unique competitive advantage in order to increase the satisfaction of efficient processing and 3-D design is essential as a means to create the maximum benefit. Current the petrochemical plant engineering process works and produces 3-D modeling according to the decisions of piping division. On the other hand, other related divisions are using 2-D design and this is becoming a hurdle in improving work efficiency as it makes it more difficult to effectively share information and communicate. As this can cause design errors and construction delay, it is inevitable to improve such matter. Furthermore, since improved technology is an important factor in achieving competitive advantage in the forthcoming plant industry, domestic plant industry should actively carry out research to create added value. As a means of achieving competitive advantage for added value, adapting 3-D modeling from the initial process, civil steel structures and utilizing it for practical work is essential. | The main objective of this research is to discuss the use of 3-D modeling at the initial stage of civil division which can reduce design time and errors. Furthermore, the research proposes the factors that need to be considered to enhance the civil steel structures design procedure. By actually designing five civil steel structures of different quantities in three projects each, based on 3-D modeling, it was possible to find out that 3-D modeling can minimize design time compared to the one done by 2-D drawings. In addition, through analyzing a real case where a petrochemical plant used 3-D modeling, it was able to reconfirm that with improved design procedure, design errors as well as re-work time and cost can be minimized.; The main objective of this research is to discuss the use of 3-D modeling at the initial stage of civil division which can reduce design time and errors.
