Abstract
In this thesis, a wide-angle polarization-insensitive metamaterial absorber for automotive radar system is proposed. The proposed absorber operates in 24 GHz band which is allocated for automotive radar. The unit cell of the proposed absorber consists of an electric LC resonator, substrate, and ground plate. In order to obtain polarization insensitivity, the LC resonator has centro-symmetrical and loop-on-edge structure. The structure also has current path from edge to center for incident angle insensitivity. The performance of the proposed absorber is analyzed by assuming unit cell of infinite array. The performance is verified by comparing the measured dara with simulated ones. The size of the unit cell of the proposed absorber is 2.6mm x 2.6mm x 0.2mm. Another subject of this thesis is mounting environmental analysis of automotive radar. It is accomplished by direction of arrival estimation in simulation under various situations. Case study consists of various material, geometrical situations. In order to mount automotive radar under car bumper, the bumper is required to have low thickness, low permittivity, and smooth surface.
