Abstract
Abstract Dance is one of the oldest forms of artistic expression in human history. Chinese classical dance is built upon classical Chinese aesthetic characteristics. Along with the introduction of modern dance, great breakthroughs have been made in content creation and the manifestation of Chinese classical dance, which is considerably meaningful to the development of China’s dance culture. In this paper, by taking the integration of Chinese classical dance and modern dance as the research subject, the history of the development of Chinese classical dance and modern dance and that of modern dance in China is analyzed through many related documents to explore the historical reasons and development necessity of Chinese classical dance and modern dance. “Sound of the Wind”, as one of the classic works relating to the combination of Chinese classical dance with modern dance, is analyzed by looking at aspects such as techniques in writing and directing, clothing, music and action. Simultaneously, the similarities and differences between this piece of work and Chinese classical dance in the traditional sense are compared, thus the importance of the role of modern dance for present day representation of Chinese classical dance is analyzed. Chinese classical dance at a new era shall not be restricted from the style and image of Chinese classical dance. However, the aesthetic principle of classical dance and the spiritual sentiment of traditional culture should manifest the emotions of modern people and the overall classical aesthetic characteristic regarding modern day themes. The free spiritual idea of modern society and creativity of subjective initiative is not a barrier but rather a remarkable development opportunity for the followers and successors of Chinese classical dance. As a result, we further cater to the aesthetic needs of social appreciators in modern society while no longer being conservative. To realize pioneering development and innovation in art, any nation should not merely exist in its own traditional culture but also should consult and absorb techniques of modern art to show the diversified and three-dimensional forms and contents of dance while saving and carrying forward its features and gradually seeking after further breakthrough and innovation. Modern awareness is integrated into the creation of Chinese classical dance drama, which not only shows accurately the respect for history and the necessary result of positive thought in reality, but also is the main pathway to objectively and dialectically solving the problems about creation and development of China’s contemporary classical dance drama and also the direction towards which all new forces of modern classical dance drama should exert sustained efforts to continue developing.
