Abstract
This study will to investigates the effects of the figure of a bullet on the shape of a penetrating wounds via finite element simulation and experiment. The shape of a penetrating wound appears differently depending on the figure of the bullet. To confirm the effects of design parameters, we used in-house firing equipment and fired in-house bullets and simulation. To analyze the behavior of bullet penetration into ballistic gelatin according to shape and size of bullet, the in-house bullets were divided into nose angles and diameters. In our experiment, it was confirmed that penetration depths in gelatin differ depending on the design variables of the bullets and the pressure caused by the behavior of the bullet creates temporary cavities and it is rapidly transferred to destroy the gelatin. Temporary and permanent cavities may be the range of damage to tissue and muscle. In conclusion, to investigate the effects according to the shape and sizes of bullets of the same mass on 10% ballistic gelatin, we respectively conducted 150 penetration experiments with various nose angles and diameters and the behavior of the bullets was analyzed through simulation.
