Program annotation : 졸업연주 프로그램을 중심으로 한 A. Caldara, L. van Beethoven, F. P. Schubert, R. Vaughan Williams, M. Ravel의 성악작품 해설

Abstract

본 논문은 필자의 대학원 석사과정 졸업 연주 프로그램에 대한 연구이며, 프로그램은 필자의 음역과 음색 등을 고려하여 선정하였는데, 작품의 개요는 다음과 같다.

안토니오 칼다라(Antonio Caldara)의 오페라 <사랑에 대한 절개로 이 거짓을 극복하리(La costanza in amor vince l`inganno)>에 나오는 “친구인 숲이여(Selve amiche)”와 “그대, 잔인해도(Sebben, crudele)”는 두 남녀 주인공이 서로를 생각하며 각각 부르는 아리아 안티케(Arie antiche)이다. 원곡은 특정 성부를 의도하여 작곡되었음에도 원곡의 성부에 국한하지 않고 다양한 성부에서 편곡되어 곧잘 불리는 곡들이다.

루트비히 판 베토벤(Ludwig van Beethoven)의 가곡 “이 어두운 묘지에서(In questa tomba oscura)”와 “그대를 사랑해(Ich liebe dich)”는 서로 다른 언어의 곡으로, 한 곡은 실연에 대한 극한 슬픔을 표현하고, 다른 한 곡은 어떤 상황에도 굴하지 않는 한결같은 사랑을 표현한다.

프란츠 페터 슈베르트(Franz Peter Schubert)의 가곡집 <백조의 노래(Schwanengesang)>에 수록된 하인리히 하이네(Heinrich Heine)의 시에 의한 가곡 여섯 곡 중, “아틀라스(Der Atlas)”, “도시(Die Stadt)”, “분신(Der Doppelgänger)”세 곡을 담았다. 다소 암울하고 우울한 내용의 이 세 곡은 슈베르트가 죽기 직전에 작곡한 곡들로, 피아노의 역할 확대에 힘입어 반주부의 묘사적인 수법을 더한 깊이 있는 예술성을 보여준다.

랄프 본 윌리엄스(Ralph Vaughan Williams)의 가곡집 <여행의 노래(Songs of travel)> 중 “방랑자(The Vagabond)”, “길가의 모닥불(The Roadside Fire)”, “밝게 울리는 목소리는(Bright is the Ring of Words)”, 여행의 즐거움을 노래하는 이 세 곡은 가곡집에 실린 다른 곡들에 비해 유명한 곡들로, 종종 관현악곡으로도 연주되어 불리기도 하는 곡들이다 .

모리스 라벨(Maurice Ravel)의 가곡집 <뒬시네를 향한 돈 키호테(Don Quichotte à Dulcenée)>에 실린 세 곡 “공상적인 노래(Chanson Romanesque)”, “서사적인 노래(Chanson épique)”, “축배의 노래(Chanson a boire)”는 돈 키호테의 낭만과 영웅적인 면모, 그리고 인간미를 느낄 수 있는 노래들이다. 영화음악으로 작곡되었으나, 실제 영화에 사용되지 못했음에도 불구하고, 현대에 이르기까지 많은 사람들에 의해 불리는 명곡들이다.

위에 열거한 작품들에 대하여 필자는 각 작곡가들의 생애와 음악적 특징, 그리고 각각의 작품에 대한 분석을 통해 곡에 대한 이해를 넓히게 되었고, 음악적 이해의 바탕 위에 표현의 완성도가 더욱 높아진다는 사실을 새삼 깨닫게 되었다. 본 논문에서 다루는 작품들을 연주하고자 하는 성악가들의 이해와 표현에 도움이 되기를 바란다.| This thesis is on the study of my graduation concert program, which was selected according to my tone and range and as follows:

Selve amiche (Friendly woods) and Sebben, crudele (Although, cruel love), crudele from Antonio Caldara’s La constanza in amor vince l’inganno (Faithfulness in love conquers treachery), which male and female protagonists sing for each other. Although the original version targets a specific voice part, many versions and arrangements have been made for various parts.

Ludwig van Beethoven’s In questa tomba oscura (In this dark tomb) and Ich liebe dich (I love you) are sung in different languages. While the former expresses the gravest grief over one’s broken heart, the latter sings of the most persevere, unchanging love.

Three out of six opera pieces in Schwanengesang of Franz Peter Shubert –Der Atlas, Die Stadt (the city), Der Doppelgänger- which were based on Heinrich Heine’s poem; These rather dark, gloomy pieces were composed immediately before Shubert’s death and shows great depth by which he adds the descriptive, repetitive techniques powered by the enlarged role of piano.

The Vagabond, The Roadside Fire, Bright is the Ring of Words in Ralph Vaughan William’s Songs of Travel; these pieces singing the pleasure of travel are also the ones more popular than the other pieces on the collection. Arrangements for orchestras are also common.

Three pieces of Chanson Romanesque (Romanesque song), Chanson épique (epic song), Chanson a boire (drinking song) from Maurice Ravel’s Don Quichotte à Dulcenée, from which Don Quixote’s romanticism, heroism and humanism stand out. These were originally composed for as film music, but had not been used. Nevertheless, they certainly remain as one of the favorites for modern artists.

On each pieces listed above, the writer engaged in study and analysis of the composers’ lives and each piece’s musical characteristics. This led not only to the deeper understanding of the pieces but also to the already well-established conclusion that deeper musical understanding of the pieces is the foundation on which musical expressions can flourish and mature.
