Abstract
We analyzed the dynamic response characteristics of a floating offshore windturbine structure influenced by the wave energy under extreme metocean conditions. Wave energy consists of swell and wind sea components, and the wave age criteria method was used to separate each component of wave energy. We then applied a hydrodynamic load to the platform to analyze load changes according to a hurricane’s progress time. Generally, in case of a semi-subemulsible structure, as the resonance period is distributed in the low-frequency region, the swell has a large motion. Therefore, we analyzed surge, heave, and pitch motion and evaluated the motion characteristics when the load acts in various directions of wave energy components. Finally, we found that swell energy greatly influences on and contributes to the motion of a floating structure in consideration of the directionality.
