긴급조치 9호에서 방탄소년단까지: 거대한 나비효과 이야기

Abstract

최근 방탄소년단(BTS)의 세계적인 인기는 오늘날 글로벌 문화시장에서 K-Pop의 경이로운 성과를 극명하게 보여준다. 이 논문은 “K-Pop의 놀라운 성공은 1975년 긴급조치 9호가 촉발시킨 나비효과의 산물”이라고 주장한다. ‘나비효과’ 개념은 시간적으로나 내용적으로 멀리 떨어져 있는 두 사건이 인과관계적으로 연결되어 있을 수 있음을 시사해준다. 1975년에 발동되었던 긴급조치 9호의 나비효과는 크게 두 가지 방면에서 작용하였다. 하나는 한국 대중음악계의 대대적인 지각변동이었고, 다른 하나는 우리나라의 급속한 정보통신혁명이었다. 그리고 이 두 가지 사건이 결합되어 2000년대 이후 K-Pop의 글로벌 성공이 이루어지게 되었다. The world-wide popularity of BTS recently clearly illustrates the enormous success of K-Pop in today’s global cultural market. This paper suggests that this amazing achievement of K-Pop is in fact a product of butterfly effect triggered by the emergency measure no.9 in 1975. The concept of butterfly effect implies that two events far off in time and/or in space could be causally related with each other. The emergent measure no.9 enforced in 1975 initiated a huge butterfly effect in two dimensions. The first was the massive crustal change in Korean popular music scene, and the second was the rapid IT revolution in Korea. These two events jointly contributed to the global success of K-Pop since the 2000s.
