장애인 도우미 활동참여 노인의 경험

Abstract

본 연구는 노인의 장애인 도우미 활동 참여 경험의 의미 및 본질에 대하여 그들의 경험을 이해하고 심층적으로 탐구하여 노인들의 건강 증진과 안녕 도모에 기여할 수 있는 방안 마련에 기초자료로 활용하고자 시도되었다. 연구참여자가 체험하는 생생한 일상의 경험을 탐색하기 위한 방법이므로 Colaizzi(1978)가 제시한 현상학적 연구방법을 이용하였다. 자료수집은 심층면담으로 진행되었으며, 새로운 내용이 발견되지 않고 자료가 충분히 포화되었다고 판단되는 시점에서 종료되었다. 연구가 진행되는 동안 연구의 엄격성은 지켜졌다. 연구결과 장애인 도우미 활동참여 노인의 경험은 ‘갈등상황에서 활동을 주저함’, ‘장애인을 새롭게 바라보게 됨’, ‘자신의 상황을 행복하게 여김’, ‘자신만을 위한 일을 찾음’으로 나타났다. 사회활동참여는 노인들의 심리적 안녕과 삶의 만족 증진, 우울증상의 감소, 지각된 건강상태 향상, 건강상태 및 기능 향상 등 건강에 긍정적인 효과를 나타내고 있으므로, 노인들의 사회활동 참여를 독려할 수 있는 다양한 방안이 마련될 필요가 있겠다. The aim of this study was to describe the experience of the elderly as a helper for the disabled. The descriptive phenomenological study design was employed. Individual interviews were conducted and audio-taped. Colaizzi"s data analysis method was used to inductively determine themes and formulated meanings. Data saturation was achieved and methodological rigor was established. Four themes were identified and these themes included ‘Hesitation in a conflict situation,’ ‘Positive attitude with a new perspective toward the disabled,’ ‘Being content with one’s life’ and ‘Having the personal satisfaction of one’s social activities’. The participation of the elderly in social activities like a helper for the disabled showed positive effects on health such as better psychological well-being and life satisfaction, less depression, better-perceived health status, and health condition. Further study is required to develop strategies to encourage the elderly to involve themselves in social activities.
