통계적 탐구활동 결과물에 나타난 고등학생의 통계적 소양

Abstract

최근 들어 통계적 소양이 현대사회의 구성원이 갖추어야할 핵심적인 역량 가운데 하나로 강조되면서 통계적 소양 중심 통계 교육으로의 개선 노력이 확산되고 있다. 이에 본 연구는 고등학교에서 이루어진 통계 수업에서 수집한 학생들의 학습결과물을 분석하여 통계적 소양 중심의 통계교육 실천 방안에 관해 제언하고자 한다. 본 연구의 분석 결과는 통계적 탐구 과정에서 나타난 학생들의 통계적 소양 수준과 더불어 통계적 개념 및 방법을 적용하는 과정에서 학생들이 경험하는 어려움을 보여주었다. 구체적으로, 학생들은 자료 수집 및 분석, 결과 해석 등의 통계적 탐구 과정을 탐구 주제와 일관성을 갖고 실행하는데 어려움을 겪는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 분석 결과는 통계수업이 탐구 과정 사이의 연결성을 인식하고 그에 비추어 개념과 방법 적용의 타당성을 평가하는 수준으로 확장되어야 할 필요성을 시사한다. 또한 학생들은 수업에서 학습한 통계적 개념과 원리를 활용하는데 어려움을 느끼는 것으로 나타났다. 이는 통계수업이 실세계 문제 해결을 도입해야할 필요성을 시사한다. 마지막으로 통계 정보 및 자료에 대한 비판적 인식과 선행연구의 활용과 관련한 윤리에 대한 학생들의 인식이 미흡한 것으로 나타났다. 따라서 통계 교육이 통계적 지식과 기능에 대한 지도와 더불어 비판적 사고력과 함께 연구윤리에 관한 지도를 포함하여 이루어져야 할 것이다. As statistical literacy is emphasized as one of key competences, there is an increasing social concern for reforming statistics education. In this context, this study analyzed high school students’ statistical project reports to investigate the characteristics of their statistical literacy. The analysis revealed the difficulties that students may experience in designing and conducting data collection, analysis, and making statistical inference with coherence to research questions. This suggests that statistics instruction should provide students with opportunity to analyze the validity of an entire statistical inquiry process. In addition, the students experienced difficulty in applying statistical concepts and principles. So statistics instruction should provide authentic learning experience to help students understand the connection between statistics and real world. Lastly, it is necessary to develop instructional materials and activities to enhance students’ critical awareness and ethics toward statistical information.
