This study compared a TV live coverage of English into Korean simultaneous interpretation of the former US President Obama’s inaugural address with text in advance and an interpretation without script to examine the effect of text on the temporal variables involved in the process. Simultaneous interpretation with text in advance omitted no sentences in the interpretation while showing significantly enhanced information processing including greater syllables per sentence, shorter pauses, higher speech rates, shorter EVS, and TTS than for interpretation without script. As these findings demonstrate that the text provided in advance served to reinforce interpreters’ anticipation and prevented the overloading of their processings, they have implications for interpretation education in the future. Temporal variables of both interpretations, however, showed high correlations with each other and their dependence on the speaker’s temporal variables was also confirmed.en_US
