정지된 시간과 부서진 자의 파상력- 『한강의 소년이 온다』(2014)와 「눈 한 송이가 녹는 동안」(2015)을 중심으로

Abstract

본 논문에서는 한강의 두 편의 소설을 통해 2010년대의 ‘지금 현재로서의 역사’라는 시간 의식이 어떻게 새로운 서사 형식을 창출하는지 살펴보았다. 이는 2009년 용산 사건에서 비롯된 시간 및 ‘사람’에 대한 새로운 인식과 밀접하게 관련된다. 용산 참사는 ‘인식 가능성의 지금’ 위에 수립된 역사가 무엇인지를 명확하게 가르쳐준 사건이다. “용산에서 불타는 영상을 보다가” 떠오른 5･18 광주의 장면은 작가가 역사를 체험하는 순간이며 미래로 진행하는 그의 시간이 정지하는 순간이었다. 이러한 각성의 순간을 통해 한강은 새로운 서사적 상상력을 전개하였다. 이는 근대적 이상을 향해 펼쳐지던 허구적 상상력과 구분되는 과거에서 현재로 이어지는 직선적 시간 인식에서 억압되고 배제된 것들을 회복시키는 파상력(破像力)을 통해 전개되었다. 기존의 서사적 상상력에서 볼 때 낯선 존재인 유령의 출현, 부서진 자에 대한 의미 부여 등은 파상력의 관점에서 이해할 수 있다. 나아가 이는 현실과 허구의 경계를 해체하면서 실제 작가의 텍스트 내적 개입을 가능케 했다. 파상력을 통해 펼쳐지는 서사의 세계는 지금-현재의 세계를 파괴하고 전복함으로써 세계에 대한 새로운 인식을 가능케 한다. 한강의 두 편의 소설은 변화된 시간 인식에 의해 펼쳐진 서사적 파상력을 통해 2010년대 지금 여기의 문제와 가능성을 동시에 보여주었다.This study investigated how time consciousness so-called ‘History from the Present Viewpoint’ in 2010 creates a new narrative form through Han Gang’s two novels. It is closely related with new awareness on time and ‘people’ from the 2009 Yongsan Disaster. The Yongsan Tragedy was an incident which clearly revealed what the history established under ‘Present of Perception Possibility’ is. The memory of May 18th Gwangju, which came up while watching the Yongsan Disaster was a moment of experiencing the history and time stopping. The author developed new narrative imagination through such moment of awakening. In fact, it was promoted through Pa-sang-ryok which restores the suppressed and isolated matters in the awareness of linear time from the past to the present, differentiated from fictional imagination which would be expressed toward modern ideal. In terms of conventional narrative imagination, the occurrence of strange ghost and endowment of meaning to the brokenhearted can be understood from the perspective of Pa-sang-ryok. Furthermore, it enabled the interval intervention of an author’s texts by destructing the boundary between fiction and fact. The narrative world being described through Pa-sang-ryok enables new perception of world by destructing and taking over the now-present world. Han Gang’s two novels reveal both current problems and potential in 2010s through the narrative Pa-sang-ryok expressed under the adjusted time awareness.
