1970년대 고교야구의 전국화와 지역주의에 관한 연구

Abstract

본 연구는 1970년대 높은 인기를 얻었던 고교야구가 어떻게 전국적인 이벤트로 확산됐는가와 함께 지역주의가 어떻게 고교야구와 접목됐는지 파악하였다. 여기에는 그 동안 고교야구의 불모지나 다름없었던 호남과 충청지역 고교 야구팀이1970년대부터 전국대회에서 좋은 성적을 내기 시작했다는 사실과 이른바 4대 일간지가 경쟁적으로 고교야구 대회를 주최하면서 나타난 대중적 파급효과와 관련이 깊다. 특히 호남과 충청도 고교야구는 동문들과 지역유지들의 후원에 힘입어전국무대에서 학교와 지역의 명예를 높이는 데에 큰 역할을 할 수 있었으며 이를 통해 모교애와 향토애라는 고교야구 흥행요인이 만들어졌다. 이런 상황에서 고교야구에서는 영⋅호남 라이벌 구도가 확립됐고 각 지역 간 치열한 경쟁이 이어졌다.고교야구 대회의 전국적 인기는 미디어를 매개로 더욱 대중적으로 확산될 수 있었으며 1970년대 고교야구 대회의 발전에결정적 기여를 했다.This study attempts to apprehend as to how high school baseball in the 1970s developed to a national event and how it was related with regionalism. In this development was inextricably interwoven with the success of high school baseball teams in Honam and Chungchung region and with public impact generated by the fact that four major newspapers hosted high school baseball tournaments. In particular, high school baseball in Honam and Chunchung region, which had been relatively inferior to that of Seoul and Youngnam region could promote local and school pride owing to the patronage of old boys and local businessmen, a culture that created the two factors of booming high school baseball: almamaterism and local patriotism. Under this social climate, a rivalry between Youngnam and Honam in high school baseball was established and a keen interregional competition ensued. This nationwide popularity could further prosper with the help of media which greatly contributed to the development of high school baseball tournaments.
