고전 산문 대중화의 현황과 전망– 한문학을 중심으로 -

Abstract

그동안 고전의 대중화에 대한 논의는 여러 차례 있어 왔다. 고전의 대중화 문제에 관해서는 대체로 고전 대중화의 당위성을 역설하는 데 집중해왔다. 저술가들과 그들의 저작들에 대해 정리하고, 그런 현상이 무엇을 의미하며 언제 학계에서 하나의 문화 현상으로 자리 잡았는가에 대한 정리는 그간 이루어지지 않았다. 한문학은 가장 많은 콘텐츠를 가지고 있는 분야 중 하나이고 고전 대중화의첨병으로서 학계의 흐름을 주도하고 있다.본고에서는 한문학을 중심으로 고전 산문의 대중화에 대해서 살펴보았다. 우선 산문 대중화의 난제들을 분석하고, 여태 이루어진 산문의 대중화 사례를 종류별로 검토한 후, 마지막으로 실제 대중화를 이끌고 있는 학자들을 중심으로그들의 저술을 살펴보았다. 여기에서 논하는 ‘대중화’란 어려운 고전을 일반 대중용으로 다운그레이드(down grade) 한다는 의미가 아니다. 새로운 정보와시각으로 연구자와 일반 대중 두 독자층 모두를 만족시키는 시도가 온전히 이루어졌을 때 연구자로서 성공적인 대중화 작업을 했다고 말할 수 있을 것이다.좋은 평가를 받고 있는 현재의 작업들에도 문제가 전혀 없는 것은 아니다. 연구 방향과 성과가 일부 서적이나 인물에 지나칠 정도로 국한되어 있다. 박지원, 정약용 등이 가지고 있는 강력한 자장(磁場) 때문이기도 하지만 다양한 인물들을 문학사 안으로 편입해야 동어반복을 피할 수 있을 것 같다. 연구와 작업의방향을 다양한 작가와 주제로 다변화하면 좀 더 다채로운 성과들이 나올 수 있을 것이다.The popularization of classics has been frequently discussed up to now. The discussion on the popularization of classics has been generally focusing on insisting the appropriateness of popularization of classics. Authors and their works, the meaning of such phenomenon and time when popularization of classical prose became one of cultural phenomenon are not summarized up to now.This paper investigated the popularization of classical prose around Chinese classics. The outstanding issues related to the popularization of prose were analyzed and the popularization cases of proses up to now were examined per type of prose. Finally, the books of scholars actually leading the popularization of classical proses were analyzed.It can’t be said that the works receiving good comments at present have no problems. The directions or achievement of researches have been excessively limited to some books or authors. More diversified results can be achieved by diversifying the directions of researches and analyses to more various authors and themes.
