1920~30년대 성교육에 대한 연구 - 기독교교육자 김필례의 ˂성교육˃을 중심으로

Abstract

1920~30년대 우리나라는 ‘연애의 시대’라고 불릴 만큼 남녀 간 성(性), 사랑등과 관련한 다양한 사회 현상에 휩싸여 있었다. 그런 과정에서 성도 교육해야한다는 필요성이 제기되고, 이에 대해 본격적으로 논의한 것은 1933년 전후였다. 한국 YWCA 창시자 중 한 사람이자 대표적인 여성 기독교교육자 중 한 사람인김필례는 1935년에 『성교육』이라는 책을 발간하였다. 이 책에서 김필례는 미혼청소년 뿐 아니라 기혼 남녀가 마주하게 되는 성과 결혼 관련 문제에 대해 광범위하게 설명하였다. 그의 성교육 내용에는 당대 사회를 고려한 몇 가지 특별한 강조점이 있다. 첫째, 성욕을 고상한 인격으로 조절하고, 사회에 대해 기여하는 생산적 역할을 해야 한다는 점을 강조하였다. 둘째 결혼은 정신적이고 육체적인것 뿐 아니라 경제적으로도 결합하는 것이라면서 경제부분을 특히 강조하였다. 셋째, 결혼의 법률적인 면을 특히 강조하였다. 이와 관련하여 결혼 당사자뿐 아니라 주례를 맡은 교회가 취할 행위를 촉구했다. 성교육에 관해서 다들 그 필요성만 제기하던 때에 구체적으로 성교육 내용을 정리해냈었다는 점에 이 책의 의의가 있다. 또, 당시 사회 윤리적으로 많은 문제를 일으키고 있는 성문제에 대해기독교교육자가 적극적으로 대처한 한 예가 된다는 데에 이 책의 또다른 의의가있다. From 1920 to 1930 did divergent social changes appear, so called ‘the age of date’ which brought forth the issues of love and sex between male and female. It caused the need of sex education, which gave birth to a social atmosphere of how to deal with sex and date around 1933. Kim Pilley, as a founding member of YWCA in Korea as well as an representatively woman educator, published the book Sex Education. In that book, Mrs. Kim covered up the issues of sex and marriage in a broad way that her explanation did not reach to the unmarried youth, but also to the married couples. A few distinct facts appear in her discussion. Firstly, she accentuated the importance of how to make sex-desire a noble characteristics conducive to a socially positive production. Secondly, she did not disregard an economical phase of marriage at the expanse of that of mind and body in marriage. Thirdly, she stressed a legal aspect of marriage. To this fact should the presider of the marriage, specifically the pastor, pay more attention than the married couple do. Conclusively, Sex Education makes a scrutinized summarization of sex education itself in the time when only the necessity of sex education attracted social discourses. Also this edition could be an exemplary and aggressive response of Christian educator to ethical social issues, especially sex and its related problems.
