≪무정≫의 세 가지 연애담, 이성애와 나르시시즘- ≪무정≫ 새롭게 다시 읽기의 한 방법

Abstract

이 논문은 자기애와 나르시시즘의 차원에 주목하여 이광수의 ≪무정≫을 새롭게 다시 읽고자 했다. 하인즈 코헛의 자기심리학 이론을 활용하여, 주인공 이형식의 성장 서사를 나르시시즘의 성숙화 과정으로 분석하였다. 제목인 ‘세 가지 연애담’에서 앞의 두 개는 형식을 상수로 둔 삼각관계의 연애 구도, ‘형식-영채’, ‘형식-선형’의 연애담이며, 나머지 하나는 형식(과 영채, 선형)에게서 두드러지게 나타나는 나르시시즘을 가리킨다. 특히 세 번째 연애담인 나르시시즘이 인물들의 성장 서사의 중요한 동력이 되고 있다고 보았다. 코헛의 자기심리학은 자기와 대상간의 관계들에 주목하여, 나르시시즘의 건강한 측면을 강조한다. 또한 성숙한 자기애로의 변형을 가능하게 하는 중요한 열쇠인 ‘공감’이 나르시시즘의 형성과 성숙에 중요한 요소로 작용한다고 주장한다. 따라서 형식의 사제관계와 연애관계를 자기애적 상처가 치유되고 자기애적 욕구가 반영되는 과정으로 분석하였다. 영채 역시 평양행 기차에서 이상화된 자기대상이라 할 수 있는 병욱을 통해 각성을 경험하고 성숙한 나르시시즘의 단계로 진화한다. 궁극적으로 소설의 대단원인 삼랑진 수해 장면에 이르러, 고통받는 민중들에 대한 공감이 형성되고 외부세계와 적극 연결됨으로써 인물들의 자기애적 도정이 성숙한 지점에 도달하게 된다. ≪무정≫은 미완의 사랑 이야기로, 이성애보다는 자기애, 사랑보다는 동맹을 우선하여 취하는 모습을 보인다. 결국 이를 통해 ≪무정≫ 이후 100년 동안 우리가 건강한 나르시시즘을 보장하는 공감적이고 반응적인 인간환경을 구축했는지를 살펴보고자 했다.This study seeks to re-read ‘Moo Jeong’ of Lee Kwang-su by focusing on the level of self-love and narcissism with Heinz Kohut's self psychology. The reason why the characters of ‘Moo Jeong’ are fascinated by the times is because they see inherent individuality as a matter of character, not a material or a subject. This study try to find the reason why need to read ‘Moo Jeong’ again over 100 years. It aims to establish that narcissism is becoming an important engine of the narrative of growth. Self-psychology is based on the human context from a perspective of a psycho-social being, accentuates the healthy side of narcissism and regard empathy as an important element in forming a mature narcissism. Ultimately, the experience of this maturity is the process of treating and reflecting narcissistic needs of Lee Hyung-sik, what matters in teacher-pupil relationships and love relationship is the operation of self-love. In the midst of a novel, Park Young-chae also overcom weak self-love and develops into mature narcissism through awakening on a train for Pyongyang. And then in the end, through the flood of Samnyangjin, the process of character's self-love reaches a meaningful point, as the sympathy of the sufferings of the poor is formed, it is to bring them together as a shared community of the people. Mature narcissism brings empathy, and mature narcissism promotes maturity through empathy.
