민주적 시민성에 대한 동서양 교육철학의 통섭 모색

Abstract

우리의 현행 교육제도가 총체적으로 서구적인 제도와 가치의 영향을 받은 것이라면 새롭게 구성해야할 전통교육의 현대화는 서구적인 교육에 대한 비판적 성찰과 혁신을 통해 재구성해야할 것이다. 이를 위해 본 논문은 동서양 교육철학의 통섭적 고찰을 통해 전통교육의 현대화의 이념적 목표, 전통적 핵심역량의 재구성, 전통교육의 운영원리의 현대화 방안 등을 포괄적으로 제시했다. 먼저, 동서양 고전의 통섭 속에서 유교적 통치성 및 공론장, 화이부동의 현대적 재구성과 만인의 선비화, 공화주의적 덕성을 전통적 맥락에서 중요한 교육목표로 제시했다. 나아가 유덕한 시민의 개인역량(修己/明明德)으로서는 성찰과 자존의 함양을, 유덕한 시민의 대인관계 역량(治人/親民)으로서는 공감과 배려의 함양을, 유덕한 시민의 공동체역량(止於至善)으로는 상생과 공존의 함양을 제시했다. 이런 이념적 목표와 핵심역량을 지지, 격려할 수 있는 교육운영 원리로서는 지행합일의 현대화, 협력교육의 현대화, 실천공동체 교육의 현대화를 들 수 있다.A new model of tradition-focused education is needed for new age of modern Korea. Current education system have evolved from Western philosophy and tradition, so some unreliable and ineffective factors have included in it. For it, a consilient approach would be tried. Confucian governmentality, traditional public sphere, modernly restructed ideas of huo-er-bu-tong(和而不同), revisited sunbi spirit, and republicanismic factors in traditional political thought can be new education goals. The Great Learning’s Three Doctrines, ming-ming-dao(明明德), qin-min(親民), zhi-yu-zhi-shan(止於至善) can be core moral competencies. These education goals and competencies can be supported with modern application of unity of knowledge and action, collaboration education, and practical community education.
