가토 노리히로의 「전후후론」(1996) 재고- ‘문학’은 어디까지 가능한가 -

Abstract

이 논문은 가토 노리히로의 「전후후론」(1996.8)을 중심으로, 이 전후 세대 비평가가 제시한 ‘문학’의 사상적 구상을 검토한 것이다. ‘문학’ 중심의 「전후후론」은 정치적･사회적 현안에 초점을 둔 「패전후론」(1995.1)의 후속논의이다. 물론, 「패전후론」에서도 ‘문학’에 의거한 ‘공공적 감각’은 중요한 의미를 지닌다.「전후후론」은 한 걸음 더 들어가 요시모토 다카아키와 다자이 오사무라는 두 축을 교차시키면서, 사상의 기점으로서의 ‘문학’을 전면화한 것이다. 가토는 ‘타자사상과 자기사상’으로 재편한 ‘정치와 문학’의 문제 틀 속에서 요시모토의 사상을 조명하고 있다. 걸프전 당시 요시모토가 헌법 수호를 표명하자 가토는 요시모토가 ‘문학’에서 ‘정치’로 이동했다고 판단하였다. 요시모토가 떠난 ‘문학’의 공석에서 가토는 ‘정치와 문학’의 대립 구도를 해제하고자 했다. 거기서 그가 제시한 방법은 끝까지 ‘문학’을 단념하지 않으면서 ‘정치’로 향하는 것이다. 한편, ‘정치와 문학’의 논쟁이 1920년대까지 거슬러 올라간다는 점에서 가토의 이러한 시도는 ‘전후’라는 틀을 벗어나 있다. 요시모토의 헌법 수호는 전쟁세대로서의 헌법 이해에 의거한 것이다. 때문에 가토는 요시모토의 헌법 이해에 대해 전후세대와의 단절이라고 하는 한계를 부각시켰다. 그러면서 그가 주목한 것이 다자이의 문학이다. 그는 다자이의 「토카통통」(1947)에서 공적 윤리와 논 모럴(=‘문학’의 본질)의 대립을 해제하는 단초를 찾고자 했다. 특유의 직관과 집요한 상상력이 엮어낸 그의 「도카통통」론은, ‘전후’의 모럴(‘정치’)과 ‘전후 이후’의 논 모럴(=‘문학’)을 일원화하는 사상적 회로를 구상화한 것이다. 다만, 이 같은 구상화는 논리적 헐거움을 지니며 사상으로서의 이론화를 지연시키고 있다.This paper aims to discuss the thought of ‘literature’ taking shape around Katō Norihiro's Theory of Post-postwar (August, 1996). Katō highlights Yoshimoto Takaaki's thought within the frame of the problem ‘Politics and Literature’ revised into ‘Self-thought and Nonself-thought’. When Yoshimoto declares safeguarding the Constitution, Katō considered Yoshimoto to have transformed into a man of ‘literature’ from a man of ‘politics’. During Yoshimoto’s absence from literature, Katō tried to break up the confrontation between politics and literature. Thereafter his approach was to head toward ‘politics’ without entirely giving up ‘literature’. From the viewpoint that the argument between politics and literature originated in the 1920s, Katō’s attempted to escape from the ‘postwar’ framework. Besides, Yoshimoto’s safeguarding of the Constitution was based on the war-generation’s understanding of the Constitution. Therefore, Katō emphasized the extent of the gap between the prewar generation and postwar generation in terms of their understanding of the Constitution. On the other hand, Katō was discovering the clue for overcoming the generation gap in Dazai osamu’s literature. By means of analyzing Tokatongtong(1947), he took concrete shape to the circuit to the thought to unify the ‘postwar’ moral(‘politics’) and ‘since postwar’ nonmoral (‘literature’). However, he does not even advance the logic to theorize this circuit to the thought of literature.
