시각적 폼의 기능을 통해 본 디자인의 정의에 관한 연구

Abstract

정보시대와 국제화시대로 대표되는 현 사회에서는 디자인이라는 용어는 이제 버즈용어(Buzz Word)에서 생활용어가 되어 버렸다. 또한 디자인은 수용자들에게 자신을 대표할 수 있는 방법으로 전환되었다. 사전적 의미로 디자인은 그리스어인 “데시그나레(designare)" 즉 ”mark out"에서 유래되었다. 여러 학자들에 의하여 디자인에 대한 다양한 의미는 행동의 목적으로 규정되어 왔으나, 시대가 바뀌면서 이런 의미는 점차 희미해지고 있다. 이것은 디자인이라는 용어가 너무 대중화 되었다는 증거이기도 하다. 그러므로 본 연구의 목적은 디자인의 정의를 디자인의 결과물인 폼(form)의 어원을 바탕으로 분석하는데 있다. 로마건축가인 비트러비어스(Vitruvius)의 분석과 폼의 관계 분석을 통하여 디자인은 스타일(Style), 미(Aesthetic), 컨셉(Concept)라는 3가지 기본 요소를 보유한다는 것을 알 수 있었고, 이를 크게 외면적인 요소(Explicit Element)와 내면적인 요소(Implicit Element)로 규정지어 질 수 있다. 본 연구인은 디자인의 새로운 정의를 구축하면서 기존의 디자인의 정의에 의한 디자인 교육에서 나아가 본 연구가 제시하는 디자인의 정의에 의한 디자인 교육과 실무가 필요하다고 인식하고 향후 디자인교육과 디자인업계에 도움이 되었으면 한다.

In contemporary cultural society, we are living in the age of information or the age of globalization where a word 'Design' is not a buzz word but it is an everyday word. And the Design becomes a method for a person to represent about one's self image. The origin of word 'Design' is from a Greek word 'Designare' and its meaning is 'mark out'. Many scholars and dictionaries prescribe its meaning to an action. Also the meaning of design becomes unclear throughout the ages and according to the ages. This evidence indicates that word 'Design' is becoming too popular with culture and people, both a sender and a receiver, are unconsciously use it without knowing its appropriate meaning.Therefore, this study defines 'Design' through examplifying an etymological review of the word 'Form' (the final result of the design). With analyzing the relationship between an analysis of Vitruvius (a Roman architect) and the definition of the form, this research defined three basic elements for the 'Design': Style, Aesthetic, and Concept. Furthermore, these three elements are divided into two general sections: explicit element and implicit element. The result of the study, new design definition and basic elements, will benefit design education and design profession in further study on design education and practice.
