오프라인 모임을 통한 온라인 커뮤니티 애착에 관한 탐색적 연구

Abstract

인터넷을 출발점으로 컴퓨터 매개 커뮤니케이션 환경에서 사람들은 가상공간에서만 상호작용 하는 것이 아니라 온라인 커뮤니케이션 수단과 오프라인 커뮤니케이션 수단을 동시에 이용함으로써 가상공간과 물리 공간의 경계가 허물어져 있다. 이런 맥락에서 번개모임에 대한 연구는 가상성과 물리성의 융합의 함의를 이해할 수 있는 단초를 제공해주고 있다. 본 연구의 목적은 온라인 커뮤니티 구성원들이 구성하고 있는 ‘가상공간의 장소감과 커뮤니티 의식’의 정도와 오프라인 번개모임에서 나타나는 ‘가상장소 애착’및 온라인 커뮤니티 애착‘에 미치는 영향을 살펴봄으로써 오프라인 공간과의 융합에 의한 가상공간에서의 사회적 상호작용의 함의를 밝혀보고자 한다. 이에 이 연구는 직접 설문과 온라인 설문 조사를 하였다. 연구의 결과, 번개 모임등과 같은 오프라인 커뮤니케이션 수단은 온라인 커뮤니티 구성원들을 오프라인 공간에서 함께 할 수 있는 경험을 제공하며 이러한 가상공간과 물리공간의 융합은 가상공간에서의 장소 애착인 가상 장소감을 증가시킬 수 있으며, 가상공간에서의 특정 장소로서 온라인 커뮤니티에 대한 애착이 형성되고 유지될 수 있게 하는데 중요한 역할을 할 수 있는 것으로 나타났다. 이렇듯 강한 온라인 커뮤니티 애착과 소속감은 오프라인 커뮤니티 연구와 마찬가지로 궁극적으로 온라인 커뮤니티 전체를 지속적으로 발전시키고 유지하는데 중요한 역할을 담당할 수 있을 것이라고 해석할 수 있다. While numerous studies regarding the possibility and significance of the interplay of online life and offline reality in social interaction have recently emerged, there are few studies that currently provide empirical evidence of the role and impact of such interconnectedness within the group dimension. By examining the perception and behavior of people in online communities, the present study aims to investigate the significance of such interconnectedness in improving cyberplace attachment and online community attachment. The results from a survey of 780 respondents are as follows: the experience of bungae was positively and significantly related to the perception of online community attachment?a sense of emotional bonds and belonging to the online community－that plays a key role in facilitating a sense of togetherness and increasing a sense of place and community in cyberspace. Hierarchical multiple regression also shows that attending bungae is a significant predictor for enhancing online community attachment. Consequently, the interconnectedness between online life and offline reality may transform unidentifiable online life into the concrete experience of offline reality. These findings suggest that bungae provides a starting point for understanding the connection between virtuality and reality and what makes it possible for cyberspace and online community to exist as natural extensions of the physical world. Implications and suggestions for future studies are discussed.
