Abstract

Lee Sang Hyun. 2007. The Aspect of Representation of ＜OksoseonIltahong story＞ and its Meaning in Chunyerok(天倪錄), Korean Folk Tales : Imps, ghosts and fairies. This paper aimed to examine the aspect of representation of ‘OksoseonIltahong’ story which provided the theme for Cheonyerok and Korean Folk Tales : Imps, ghosts and fairies and figure out its meaning. Two stories which were grouped into a category sharing the same pattern in Cheonyerok were divided into stories with two different patterns in Korean Folk Tales : Imps, ghosts and fairies. The root cause of this separation lied in the fact that Gale identified the value in Oksoseon story which was equivalent to the ‘romantic love’ of the West. That the first part of Oksoseon story itself - an object that needs to be justified on the part of Imbang- acquired a new meaning implies that a new reality(context) was created to facilitate the reading of ＜Oksoseon story＞(text). In other words, the romantic love of ＜Oksoseon story＞ could be discovered through the fictional concept of mimetic theory that provides the basis of making distinction between the ‘reality/fact’ and the ‘fiction’ which might characterize Gale. Gale, however, ruled out ＜Iltahong story＞, a love story in a context identical to ＜Oksoseon story＞, as he could not completely fathom the representational system of Cheonyerok which did not differentiate the reality from the fiction. That was because no hidden emotion of Shim Hee-Soo could be detected in ＜Iltahong story＞ which was expressed in the form of biography series.
