Abstract

Comfortable bedclothes are material to sleeping. The bedclothes have variously developed because of the cultural differences from each country. Koreans have used very characteristic bedclothes because we have had underfloor hypocaust heating system. The traditional bedclothes can be divided into cushion, pillow, quilt, and mattress etc. There are hot, chayeob, multi-layered or single-layered quilt. There are also a variety of pillows, according to types. such as bamboo pillow, wooden pillow, dutch wife, kubong pillow, long pillow, gol pillow, jak-pillow. Our ancestors have used these by four seasons, Due to the western life style, the traditional style bedclothes have disappeared. However, there are some cases to modernize the Korean traditional bedclothes. It goes without saying that designers should update and develop the traditional bedclothes to inherit our cultural tradition.
