Abstract
This paper focused on the shape and decoration of hats seen through movie from the 1930s to the 1950s.In order to study the formation of the hats, this paper classified the hats into periodical background and shapes. As a study realm, this study referred to the analysis items of the paper written by You Hyun-jung & Kim Min-ja, who had studied the shape of these hats in advance, collecting hat design shown in two copies of magazines. The caps of the highest frequency were solid types. The rest of designs were free and plane-typed hats. In particular, capeline caps were the most common among the solid-typed designs, and plane-typed hats were rare. The 1940's movies have the most affluent materials. Free-shaped hats showed the highest frequency to express actresses' noticeable feature. As a result of the decorative hats of high frequency, unadorned caps showed the highest frequency. The rest of hats were decorated with mesh and feathers, caps decorated with flowers, and ribbons were very rare.As mentioned above, through the shape analysis of the hats that actress were wearing in movies from the 1930s to the 1950s, the capeline-typed unadorned hats were the most common design, It is believed that this paper will be a basic material and good information for designers to develop a new hat, based on the figurative analysis of the hats.
