각인효과와 신생기업의 생존: 창업초기 최고경영진의 특성이 벤처기업의 생존에 미치는 영향

Abstract

본 연구는 창업초기 최고경영진의 특성이 벤처기업의 장기적인 생존율에 미치는 영향에 대해각인효과(imprinting effect)의 관점을 바탕으로 가설을 설정하고 이를 실증 분석하였다. 2000년 이전 설립된 IT와 제조업 기반 벤처기업 184개를 대상으로 2014년 생존여부를 종속변수로 하여 실증분석을 실시한 결과, 창업 초기 최고경영진의 평균연령이 낮을수록, 그리고 창업초기 최고경영진의 기술적 역량이 높을수록 벤처기업의 장기적인 생존율 또한 높아지는 것으로 확인되었다. 본연구를 통해 창업당시 최고경영진의 특성은 기업에 각인되어 장기적인 생존율에 영향을 줄 수도있다는 점을 유추할 수 있다. 또한 벤처 기업의 장기적인 생존을 위해서는 창업시점에서 상대적으로 젊은 경영진의 구성이 유리하며, 창업당시 경영진의 기술적 역량 역시 중요하다는 시사점을얻을 수 있었다. The purpose of this study is to conduct an empirical analysis of the effects of founding team characteristics on ventures’ survival within the framework of imprinting effect. To examine this, we analysed 184 IT and manufacturing companies which founded prior to the year of 2000. The statistical results show that firms’ survival has a negative relationship with founding top management teams’ average age. In addition, a positive relationship was observed between firms’ survival and founding top management teams’ high technological competence.
