時調에 나타난 ‘老年’의 考察

Abstract

현대로 접어들며 노년의 문제는 심각한 사회문제로 대두되고 있다. 대중문화에서 노년을 테마로 다룬 내용이 자주 등장하는 것은 이러한 현상의 반영이라 할 수 있다. 이에 본 논문에서는 시조에 나타난 노년의 문제를 고찰하고, 이로써 요즘 야기되는 노년의 문제를 되짚어보고자 한다. 본격적인 논의에 앞서, 문학일반에 등장하는 노년을 살펴보고 시조의 노년에 주목하였다. 여기서는 특별히 ‘白髮’에 주목하였는데, 노년을 노래한 다수의 시조에서 백발이 중요한 어휘로 등장하기 때문이다. 이어 시조에 나타난 노년의 문제를 검토하였다. 이는 세가지로 범주화 할 수 있다.첫째는 老化한 현실의 歎息으로, 늙어버린 자신의 현재를 슬퍼하는 것이다. 둘째는 지나간 젊음에 대한 熱望이다. 과거를 회상하며 현재와 대비되는 젊음을 그리워한다. 셋째는 자신의 과거를 예로들며 他人을 警戒하는 그러나 모든 시조에서 노년이 부정적인 대상이 되는 것은 아니다. 노년을 망각하거나 즐거워하며 긍정으로 인식하는 시조 또한 존재한다. 이러한 경향은 士林派 文人을 창작자로 삼는 일련의 江湖時調에서 자주 발견된다. 반드시 사림파 문인의 작품이 아니더라도, 親自然을 노래한 시조들에서 노년을 긍정하고 있다. 시조에서 보이는 이러한 양상은 노년을 살아가는 하나의 방안으로 삼을 수 있는 것으로, 현재에도 그 유용성을 제공한다.

In modern society, old age is a serious social problem. Therefore, old age is becoming a main theme in popular culture and modern literature. This is a reflection of society in the literature. This paper examines the problem of old age in the sijo tries to reconsider the problem of old age. Prior to a full discussion, this paper examines old age in other genres of the literature. Subsequently, it explores the old age expressed in was particularly marked with “gray hairs.” Gray hair appears as an important vocabulary in many sijo focused on old age. Next, the paper reviews the problem of old age, which can be classified into three categories. The first is the lamentation of an aging reality. The second is the longing for past youth. This refers to remembering the past and missing youth in the present. The third is taking care of others, with their past as example. These show different aspects, but are all common in accepting old age. However, in sijo, old age is not a negative object, and in some verses, old age is forgotten or rejoiced, recognized as affirmative. This tendency is often found in the Gangho-Sijo(江湖時調) created by the Sarim(士林) Group’s writer, or in sijo that explore nature, thus affirming old age.
