식민지 지식인의 世界 情勢 視察과 未完의 여행(기) - 李晶燮의 「滬漢紀行」과 「朝鮮에서 朝鮮으로」를 중심으로 -

Abstract

본 논문은 식민지 시대 언론인 李晶燮이 쓴 「?漢紀行」과 「朝鮮에서 朝鮮으로」에 관한 연구이다. 「?漢紀行」에서 이정섭은 중국에 대해서는 동정과 공감의 태도로 일관한다. 世界 一週 여행기에서 이정섭의 의식은 좀 더 복합적이다. 이정섭에게 영국과 일본은 제국주의로서, 중국과 아일랜드는 약소민족으로서 동격이다. 아일랜드 여행기 筆禍 사건은 이로부터 비롯된 일제 당국과의 충돌이다. 그 결과 그의 기행문은 未完에 그칠 수밖에 없었다. 본 논문에서는 「朝鮮에서 朝鮮으로」의 검열로 인한 삭제와 미완성을 의미 기호로 파악하고 이를 하나의 言語的 事件으로 평가하였다. 나아가 이 기행문의 특수성을 기행문을 둘러싼 아이러니를 통해 살펴보았다. 아이러니란 제국에 대한 비판적 관점에도 불구하고 이정섭이 정치적, 구조적으로는 제국 의식에 함몰 되는 데에서 발생한다. 이는 이정섭의 文化와 政治에 대한 분리 의식 및 제국과 식민의 구도 속에서 식민지인이 처한 位相的 한계에서 비롯된 결과이다. This study investigated the traveler’s journals ‘Hu-Han Travelog’ and ‘From Joseon to Joseon’ written by Lee Jung-seop, a journalist during the colonial period. As the travelogs which observe current situations, both essays cover new aspects which haven’t been discussed in modern traveler’s journals of Joseon. Even so, there hasn’t been a specific dispute over this issue. Therefore, this study summarized the background and details of both travel assays and analyzed individual characteristics. Lee Jung-seop keeps sympathy and empathy attitude toward China based on the perception that Joseon is a small and weak nation. In ‘world travel sketch,’ his consciousness is more complex. In terms of writing cognition, both journals are the same. The incident of the island travel essay indictment is a collision with the Japanese authority caused by this attitude. As a result, his travel essays had to be incomplete. Viewing deletions by censorship and incompleteness of travel and writing as a single semantic sign, ‘From Joseon to Joseon’ can be interpreted as a linguistic-incidental traveler’s journal. Lee Jung-seop’s critical view on the British Empire is found in both essays. In terms of perception on the United Kingdom from a cultural perspective, however, his criticism is shaken. From this aspect, his separated view on politics and culture is found. After all, it was the process of the empire’s collapse in cultural and political domains. The irony of ‘From Joseon to Joseon’ is observed here. In other words, this traveler’s journal reveals the coexistence of contradiction which is dominated by Japan’s political magnetic field by after agreeing to Choi Rin’s self-government government in terms of a structure of collision against Japanese empire. Outwardly, he took was resistant against the empire-Japan and the Great Britain. From a structural viewpoint, in contrast, it falls under its influence ironically. The latter results from the positional limit colonists can easily encounter in empire-colony structure.
