Abstract
Building information modeling (BIM) is a direct expression of digital technology in the construction industry, which is causing all unprecedented change completely of the construction industry. BIM technology has shown rapid development in the construction industry during the last few decades. It has delivered great benefits in many fields, but its full implementation in the earthwork projects has not yet been achieved. There are not specified predefined models in the BIM applications like temporary structure design for the earthwork projects. As in earthwork projects, usually the main focus is subjected to the cut or fill design model. This thesis is based on the software of Autodesk Revit and Dynamo as the modeling tools and takes “Parking Structure” as an example to explore the method of BIM modeling basis and significance in Earthwork research are. This thesis presents the methodology for the design of conventionally used temporary structures using Autodesk Revit software and explains how Dynamo visual programming efficiently application temporary structure 3D model into the earthwork model. A content library has also been developed for the 3D models of temporary structures during this research. The design parameters are assigned to these models which provide the ease of design change during the project. On the basis of the existing 3D modeling experience, the design efficiency to be improved through Dynamo Visual Programming by reducing design errors. Finally, summarizing the thesis main research results, discussing the advantages and disadvantages of Dynamo Visual Programming technology, and putting forward some improvement methods.
