Fuji nationalism was fully extended and focused on how the critical attempt helped to solidify the cultural aspect of Mt. Fuji (symbolization of a state). ‘I’, a first person narrator in “One hundred views of Mount Fuji”, a novel written by Dazai Osamu in 1939, absolutized a rift between and ‘Hujiyama in Japan’ and ‘the real Fuji’. ‘I’ represents ‘the real Fuji’ as an image opposing against ‘Hujiyama in Japan’. However, it is just the image independently created by ‘I’. There is still no trace of ‘the real Fuji.’ While calling the biased close relationship between ‘Mt. Fuji as a natural being(that thing)’ and ‘Mt. Fuji as a historical being(that guy)’, Ide Takashi emphasized that it would actually be impossible to separate them in “Discussion on Fuji”(1948). As a result, Mt. Fuji defined as ‘the enemy of people’ and the object of hatred and struggle in collusion with the bourgeoisie is Mt. Fuji that the two things are mixed. However, he did not eventually present any vision related to ‘Mt. Fuji as a natural being’ introduced after years of struggle. Mt. Fuji is setup into a double structure, ‘Viewing Fuji’ and ‘Climbing Fuji.’. “A New One hundred views of Mount Fuji” written by Kaga Otohiko in 1981. ‘I’ who just considered Mt. Fuji as ‘Viewing Fuji’ climbed up to the summit of Mt. Fuji according to a strong advice of one of his friends, a photographer for the first time. Since then, Mt. Fuji seen in ‘I’s eyes becomes the huge mother nature standing arrogantly and indifferently without thinking of the finite human life. ‘I’ is hostile to and denies Mt. Fuji. In this sense, the true nature of ‘Mt. Fuji as a natural being’ is not fully recovered even her. Japan registered Mt. Fuji as a cultural heritage, not a natural heritage in promoting Mt. Fuji to be registered as a World Heritage Site in 2004 because it was judged that Mt. Fuji could meet the standards for the registration of a world cultural heritage site, not a world natural heritage site. In other words, the heritage value of Mt. Fuji, recognized by the world, was considered to exist as a cultural aspect symbolized a ‘Japan`s symbol’, not as a natural being. The judgment hit the bull`s eye and the registration of Mt. Fuji as a World Cultural Heritage Site was decided (June 22, 2013). The three texts mentioned above showed an irony that it gradually died away from its true nature whenever the existence of ‘the real Fuji’ (Mt. Fuji as a kind of nature) was strongly convinced and investigated. It seemed that its identity as a cultural being(Japan`s symbol) predicted the current address of Ft. Fuji recognized in the world.
