부모의 심리적 통제가 청소년의 관계적 공격성을 매개로 스마트폰 중독 경향성에 미치는 영향

Abstract

이 연구는 청소년의 일반 특성 및 스마트폰 사용 실태에 따라 스마트폰 중독 경향성이 차이를 보이는지 살펴보고, 부모의 심리적 통제가 관계적 공격성을 매개로 스마트폰 중독 경향성에 영향을 미치는지 알아보기 위하여 실시되었다. 이러한 목적에 따라 설정한 연구 문제는 다음과 같다.

첫째, 청소년의 일반 특성 및 스마트폰 사용 실태에 따라 스마트폰 중독 경향성이 어떠한 차이를 보이는가? 둘째, 부모의 심리적 통제와 청소년의 관계적 공격성, 스마트폰 중독 경향성의 관계는 어떠한가? 셋째, 부모의 심리적 통제와 청소년의 스마트폰 중독 경향성의 관계에서 관계적 공격성이 매개효과를 보이는가?

연구 대상은 서울 및 경기도에 소재한 4개 중학교의 재학생 374명으로, 이 중 남학생이 196명, 여학생이 178명이었으며, 1학년이 128명, 2학년이 124명, 3학년이 122명이었다. 변인들의 내용을 측정하기 위한 도구로는 Barber(1996)가 개발하고 전숙영(2007)이 번안한 심리 통제 척도, Marsee, Kimonis와 Frick(2004)이 개발하고 한영경(2008)이 번안한 자기보고형 또래 갈등 척도, 한국정보화진흥원(2011)이 개발한 스마트폰 중독 진단 척도를 사용하였다. 이 연구에서 나타난 주요 결과는 다음과 같다.

첫째, 연구 대상의 일반 특성 및 스마트폰 사용 실태에 따른 스마트폰 중독 경향성의 차이를 살펴본 결과 스마트폰 중독 경향성은 성별, 처음 스마트폰을 가진 시기, 스마트폰으로 가장 많이 하는 활동, 평일 하루 스마트폰 사용 시간, 주말 하루 스마트폰 사용 시간에 따른 차이가 유의미하였다. 둘째, 부모의 심리적 통제와 청소년의 관계적 공격성, 스마트폰 중독 경향성의 상관관계를 살펴본 결과 변인들 간에 유의미한 정적 상관이 나타났다. 구체적으로 살펴보면, 어머니와 아버지의 심리적 통제를 높게 지각하는 것은 관계적 공격성 및 스마트폰 중독 경향성과 정적 상관을 보였고, 관계적 공격성을 높게 지각하는 것은 스마트폰 중독 경향성과 정적 상관을 보였다. 셋째, 부모의 심리적 통제와 청소년의 스마트폰 중독 경향성의 관계에서 관계적 공격성이 매개효과를 보이는지 검증한 결과, 어머니와 아버지의 심리적 통제와 청소년의 스마트폰 중독 경향성의 하위요인인 일상생활장애, 가상세계지향, 금단, 내성의 관계에서 관계적 공격성이 부분매개효과를 보였다.

이러한 연구 결과를 통하여 부모의 심리적 통제가 청소년의 관계적 공격성을 매개로 스마트폰 중독 경향성에 미치는 영향을 확인하였으며, 스마트폰 중독 예방과 치료를 위해서는 청소년의 부모자녀관계와 또래상호작용 양상에 주목하고 개입해야 할 필요가 있음을 제시하였다.; This study examined the influences of parental psychological control on the tendency for smartphone addiction and investigated whether adolescents’ relational aggression mediated the relation of parental psychological control on the tendency for smartphone addiction in adolescents.

The sample for this study was 374 students(M 196, F 178) from four middle schools located in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do. Variables were measured with the Psychological Control Scale-Youth Self Report(PCS-YSR), the Peer Conflict Scale(PCS), and the Smartphone Addiction Diagnostic Scale(S-scale). The data were analyzed by means of descriptive statistics analysis, the one-way ANOVA, correlation analysis, multiple regression analysis, and the Sobel test. Also, the Baron and Kenny’s model(1986) was used to verify mediating effects.

The results were as follow: First, differences in the tendency for smartphone addiction were analyzed by general characteristics and smartphone use status of research participants. Differences in the tendency for smartphone addiction according to gender, the period when participants started using their own smartphone, activities performed most by smartphone, hours of smartphone use per day on weekdays, and hours of smartphone use per day on weekends were significant. Second, correlation analysis was conducted to identify the relationship among parental psychological control, relational aggression, and the tendency for smartphone addiction. Parental psychological control, relational aggression, and all subvariables of the tendency for smartphone addiction showed significant positive correlation. Third, the mediating effects were analyzed in the relationship between parental psychological control and the tendency for smartphone addiction. Relational aggression turned out to mediate partially between both maternal and paternal psychological control and daily life hardships, virtual world orientation, withdrawal, and tolerance.

The results of this study showed that parental psychological control has direct and indirect effects on the tendency for smartphone addiction, and described the mediating effects of relational aggression. Also, this result presented that it is necessary to deal with parent-child relationship and peer interaction for preventing and treating adolescents’ smartphone addiction.
