권환과 임화

Abstract

권환은 임화와 함께 식민지 시대와 해방 직후의 프로문학을 이끌었던 대표적인 시인 겸 비평가이다. 물론 임화에 비해 인지도나 평판 그리고 기억의 밀도에서 떨어지는 것이 사실이지만, 권환 역시 당대 프로문학의 전개에 매우 중차대한 역할을 했다고 말할 수 있다. 권환은 시 창작과 병행하여 펼친 프로문학 비평에서, 비교적 견고한 이념 우선의 창작론을 시종 펼쳤다. 그리고 그의 비평은 볼셰비키화론에 따른 문예대중화를 적극 주장하여 카프의 창작 방향을 정립해가는 데 커다란 영향을 끼쳤다. 권환은 독특한 풍자시를 시도하기도 하였고 임화 시편과 유사한 단편서사시 양식을 탐색하기도 하여 창작 방법의 변화를 꾀하기도 했다. 임화의 ‘단편서사시’와 권환의 ‘뼉다귀시’는 감정의 전면화와 감정의 전면 소거라는 대척점을 가진 채, 카프 내부에서 비판적 논의의 대상이 되기도 했다. 임화가 권환 시를 이때 비판했던 것은 물론이다. 하지만 이때 권환은 김기진의 대중화론을 비판하는데, 여기에는 노동운동을 소부르주아로부터 분리해야 한다는 12월 테제를 수용한 영향이 착색되어 있다. 그렇게 권환과 임화는 김기진이 나아가고자 했던 부르주와의 연합전선을 적극 비판함으로써 카프 내부에서 같은 길을 걸었다. 요컨대 권환과 임화는 시의 내용과 형식 차원에서 미시적 비판을 주고받았지만, 크게 보아 카프 안에서 노선의 친연성을 가지고 있었다고 할 수 있다. Kwon Hwan and Im Hwa are two representative poets and critics who led the proletarian literature movement together during the Japanese colonial period and right after liberation. It is true that Kwon Hwan’s reputation, popularity, and the density of recollection are far less than that of Im Hwa, but he also played an important role in the development of proletarian literature at the time. Kwon Hwan wrote poems and asserted a theory of writing with a focus on ideology. His criticism actively insisting on literary popularization according to the bolshevization debate had a huge influence on setting the direction of writing in KAPF. To change the method of writing, Kwon Hwan attempted to write a peculiar satiric poem and explored short epic poems similar to those of Im Hwa. Both Im Hwa’s short epic poems and Kwon Hwan’s 'Bone Poem' had opposite features of the outright presentation of emotion and the outright elimination of emotion; however, they became objects of criticism within KAPF. At this time, Kwon Hwan criticized the popularization debate by Kim Gijin, showing that he accepted the 'December Thesis' (1928) of separating the labor movement from the petit bourgeois. By criticizing Kim Gijin’s argument of constructing solidarity with the bourgeois, Kwon Hwan and Im Hwa shared the same direction. They criticized each other’s poems in content and form, but had infinity in line within KAPF in general.
