- Abstract
The objective of this research is to design a quadruped robot that realizes stable
walking without pre-information about the terrain. When a robot walks on an uneven
terrain without knowledge about the terrain, it encounters the problems of
premature contact and lack of foot contacts of the swinging legs with obstacles.
These problems make the robot unstable. It is necessary to detect the states and to
decide the adjustment of the robot body. This study assumes that a force sensor is
mounted on each foot for collision detection and that an inertial measurement unit
sensor is employed to determine the state of the robot. Based on sensor readings,
the robot determines the next step trajectory that meets the requirements for static
stability. In this study, a stable walking pattern of a quadruped robot on an uneven
terrain with random heights is demonstrated. The effectiveness of this method is validated
through the simulations for an uneven terrain. The simulation results show
that the walking pattern is effectively stable and adaptable to unknown, uneven terrains.
That advantages are validated considering the static stability and trajectory
adaptation.
