This paper is to investigate a diachronic change of `p`+consonant clusters, `ps`+consonant clusters with the framework of Optimality Theory. Namely, this paper aims to clarify the changing processes of the Korean consonant clusters, especially in word initial. In this paper, I will focus on the constraints found in sequencing consonants in onset. The interesting observations concerning onset in the middle Korean are found in `p` or `ps` sequence. Such `p` or `ps` sequences have been considered an exception to the Korean syllable structure. The purpose of this paper is to review the analyses of `p` or `ps` sequences and to present an analysis of word initial consonant clusters different from the previous analyses. At last, I will talk about the problem that word initial consonant clusters vanish for a certain reason, and then I explain word initial consonant clusters diachronic change in Optimality Theory.
