Abstract
At present, as the carrier of knowledge and practitioners of knowledge labor, employees have become core resources of enterprises, core subjects of modern human resources management, and the core competitiveness of enterprises in the era of a knowledge-based economy. How to effectively manage employees, identify, apply and develop their creativity and potential, enhance their enthusiasm for work, cultivate their sense of responsibility and professionalism and improve and promote the production, distribution, application and increment of knowledge technology becomes the most important issue facing modern enterprises’ human resources management. Based on the review of related Chinese and foreign literature, this paper took theories like generational theories and content and process theories of motivation as theoretical bases, combined theoretical research and empirical research and collected data through questionnaires targeted at the post-1970s, post-1980s and post-1990s. The software SPSS was used for statistical analysis of results of the questionnaires. Based on the conclusion of empirical analysis, different generations’ choices of motivators were explored. The contents of this paper are as follows: 1. Questionnaire design. This paper firstly defined concepts like generational theories and theories of motivation. Based on generational theories, this paper summarized the personality characteristics different generations and various motivators and proposed hypotheses about employees’ preferences. Based on the hypotheses, considerations related to the questionnaire design were analyzed and contents of the questionnaires were adjusted accordingly. The reliability and validity of results of the questionnaires was tested. 2. Data collection, processing and analysis. Data were collected from questionnaires distributed through mobile phones. The software SPSS was used for descriptive analysis, factor analysis and cluster analysis, based on which the classifications of motivators and characteristics of different generations was obtained and the descriptive explanation of the results was provided. 3. Conclusion. The results were explained and analyzed, characteristics of the generations in the classification were summarized and prospects for future research were discussed.
