무소르그스키의 〈전람회의 그림〉에 대한 분석 연구

Abstract

In Russia, the nationalist movement to pursue art with its own sentiment has risen in the 19th century. Musicians eagerly seek to their national music enlighten and the Five was the most influential artists of all. Mussorgsky, the member of the Russian Five, is a composer who succeeded in recreating the music of Russia by using folk materials which are easily accessible in simple form, or realistically describe the events and contents of life. In his music, because it revealed the characteristics of folk music such as changed meter, chromatic scale and pentatonic scale, and exposed the Russian sentiment clearly by using like Russian folk song and hymn tune, it captured the hearts of the nation. These features can be seen in what this study dealt with I studied in this paper. Most of them are suites consisted of ABA-style short songs which were composed with viewing exhibition works in realistic representation. This piece of work especially shows Mussorgsky's ethnicity well. It uses Russian folk song's melody as it is, and has the most characteristic feature of the Russian musical scale which is constantly repeating short phrase in the narrow range. In order to escape from the dominance of European music, it avoided the traditional style and used discordant harmony and chromatic scale tonality, and also notable is broke the regular rhythm pattern by using the appoggiatura with much changed meter. As a result of this study, Mussorgsky showed a lot of innovative attempts to deviate from the custom of musical style. His distinctive composition skill and musical color have influenced later composers, and he became the person who made big turning point in Russian music history.; 러시아에서 자국의 정서가 담긴 예술을 추구하는 민족주의운동이 19세기에 활발하게 일어났다. 음악가들 사이에서도 조국 음악을 찾기 위한 움직임으로 활발했는데 그 중 러시아 5인조는 러시아 음악 역사에서 빼놓을 수 없는 인물들이다. 무소르그스키(Modest Mussorgsky, 1839 – 1881)는 러시아 5인조의 일원으로 단순한 형식 안에서 쉽게 접근할 수 있는 민속적 소재들을 이용하거나 생활상의 사건이나 내용들을 사실적으로 묘사하여 러시아만의 음악을 재창조하는데 성공한 작곡가이다. 그의 음악에서는 변박이나 반음계, 5음음계와 같은 민속 음악의 특징이 드러나고 러시아 민요나 찬송가 선율을 그대로 사용하는 등 러시아의 정서가 명확히 들어나 민족의 마음을 사로잡았다. 본 논문에서 연구한 <전람회의 그림(Pictures at an Exhibition)>에서도 이러한 특징들을 볼 수 있었다. 대부분 ABA 3부형식의 짧은 곡들로 이루어진 모음곡으로 전시회에서 감상한 작품들을 사실적인 표현으로 작곡되었다. 이 작품에서 특히 무소르그스키의 민족주의적 특징이 잘 드러난다. 러시아 민요의 선율을 그대로 사용하기도 하며 좁은 음역 안에서 짧은 악구가 끊임없이 반복되는 러시아 음계의 사용을 가장 큰 특징으로 가진다. 유럽 음악의 지배에서 벗어나고자 전통적인 양식을 피하고 불협화적인 화성과 반음계적 조성을 사용하였으며 변박을 즐겨 쓰면서 전타음을 이용하여 규칙적인 리듬패턴에서 탈피하는 점 또한 돋보였다. 본 논문에서 연구한 결과 무소르그스키의 <전람회의 그림>은 음악적 양식을 관례에서 벗어난 혁신적인 시도를 많이 한 점이 보였고 그의 개성있는 작곡기법과 음악적 색채는 후대 작곡가들에게 많은 영향을 끼치며 러시아 음악사에 큰 전환점이 되는 작품으로 평가되었다.
