The state of the art of conductive functional textile woven fabrics have given rise to a demand for textile-integrated electrodes. Textile electrodes are highly desirable for wearable electronics as they offer lighter weight, flexibility, cost effectiveness and ease of fabrication. Herein, this thesis accounts for the fabrication of textile counter coated with graphite composite electrodes for DSSC applications. Initially, a highly conductive and flexible woven fabric electrode is prepared using highly absorbent lyocell fabric coated with activated charcoal decorated graphite composite (AC-GC). This (AC-GC) coated lyocell fabric is used as a counter electrode (CE) for polyethylene oxide based quasi-solid state dye sensitized solar cell (Qs-DSSCs). This CE demonstrated high conductivity and electrocatalytic activity (ECA) compared to platinum (Pt) based CE. It is suggested that the enzyme treated charcoal infused graphite composite structure provided more accessibility to tri-iodide (I_3^-) ions for their reduction. This proposed organic fabric based DSSC assembly demonstrated extremely low charge transfer resistance (RCT) of 1.56 Ω.cm2 with a power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 7.09%. This fabric based CE is also highly stable in water and electrolyte solution. Further, a highly concentrated colloidal solution of graphene oxide nanosheets (GONs) is prepared using modified Hummer’s process and coated on to the lyocell fabric by dip-dry technique. The coated fabric is then reduced in to graphene nanosheets (GNs) using facile chemical reduction method. The aim is to devise a freestanding textile electrode with a low surface resistance without the use of any binder or adhesive material in the processing step. The different characterization results suggest that the GONs are effectively adhered on to the lyocell fabric and the conversion of GONs in to GNs by chemical reduction has no adverse effect on the crystalline structure of textile substrate. The graphene coated lyocell fabric (L-GNs) is found stable in water and electrolyte solution, it retained nearly same surface electrical resistance of 40 Ω.sq-1 at various bending angles. Finally, electrocatalytic activity of graphite is enhanced by intercalation of highly porous silica particles (as nano-spacers) in to the graphite particle matrix to fabricate a low-cost electrically conductive and electrocatalytically active counter electrode (CE) for photo-electrochemical quasi-solid state dye-sensitized solar cell (Qs-DSSC). An increase of 53.6% in PCE is achieved compared to bare cationised graphite coated CE. Our suggested Si@G 10% CE demonstrated commendable power conversion efficiency of 6.42% compared to 7.32% with expensive platinum (Pt) based Qs-DSSC. Owing to the improved interconnection, formation of the porous structure, and enhanced mobility of the electrolyte ions the proposed CE exhibited RCT of 0.61 Ω.cm2. The cyclic voltammetry (CV) of the as-prepared Si@G 10% CE shows excellent electro-catalytic activity towards the 〖I^-/ I〗_3^- redox couple and is stable up to 50 cycles.-
