- Abstract
- Thanks to the development of Building Information Modeling(BIM), building code checking process requiring delicate interpretation of the regulation has been changed to the automatized process with a 3D model and its intense amount of information. Plenty of countries are proceeding researches about the logical process for translating natural language of regulations into computer-readable code. This paper introduces the Building Code Visual Language (BCVL) for BIM-supported building design assessment. The BCVL is highly intuitive and approachable method for translating natural language regulation into the computer-readable form by composing several types of visual symbols. This visual language-based approach supports domain workers who demand building design assessment but not familiar with programming language related knowledge. As a further work, BCVL can expand the scope of expressible contents to check the much wide range of regulations in different fields of architecture, engineering, construction, and facility management (AEC-FM).
