김광균과 방법적 모더니즘

Abstract

김광균 시의 세계 인식과 창작 방법은 매우 밀접한 상호 관련성을 가지고 있다. 그의 비극적 세계 인식은 식민지 근대의 타율적 도시화에 따른 소외감과 상실 의식에 의해 구성되어 있고, 그의 창작 방법인 이미지즘은 그러한 슬픔의 미학 구현을 위한 일종의 시적 전략으로 채택된 것이기 때문이다. 상실 의식의 외화로서의 감각, 그 심리적 대상(代償)으로서의 비극성, 참신한 기표로서의 이국적 이미지 등은 그러한 세계를 구성하는 일관된 원리였다고 할 수 있다. 따라서 그의 모더니즘은 철저한 이념에 바탕을 둔 것이 아니라 다분히 방법적인 것이었으며, 그의 선명한 감각 역시 즉물성에 머무르지 않고 일종의 문명 비판적 성격으로 나아가게 된다. 따라서 우리는 김광균 시편들이 전해 준 비애, 공허, 부재, 상실 의식이 당대 주체들이 겪은 시대적 슬픔의 맥락에서 유래한 것임을 알 수 있다. 더불어 이번에 소개하는 새로운 자료는 임화와 일제 말기에 나눈 실물적 대담으로서, 두 논자는 경향시와 모더니즘의 관계에 대해 ‘현실’, ‘새로움’, ‘윤리’, ‘전통’ 등의 차원에서 검토하고 있다. 이 자료를 통해 우리는 김광균의 모더니즘이 현실 지향의 촉수를 강하게 드리운 것이었다는 점을 다시 한 번 선명하게 알 수 있을 것이다.A perception of the world and method of writing in Kim Kwang-gyun’s poems have a close relationship. His tragic recognition of the world was consisted of a one-sided sense of alienation and loss caused by forced urbanization during the Japanese colonial period, and his writing method was selected as a kind of strategy to embody the aesthetics of sorrow with vivid imagism. Sensuous images to express a sense of loss, tragic characteristics as a psychological compensation of it, exotic images as an original signifiant and so on are consistent principles consisting his poetic world. His modernism was, therefore, not a thoroughly ideological but quite a methodological one and his vivid sense goes toward a sort of a criticism of civilization. Grief, emptiness, absence and a sense of loss in Kim Kwang-gyun’s poems were originated from the sorrow of subjects who lived through the period. This paper unearthed and introduced the new materials which include the conversation between Im Hwa and Kim Kwang-gyun in the late period of Japanese imperialism. They examined the relationship between New-tendency poems and modernism from the perspectives of ‘reality’, ‘novelty’, ‘morality’, ‘tradition’, and so on. With this materials, it became clear that Kim Kwang-gyun’s modernism also has a strong orientation towards the reality.
