The Significance of the First Campaign of “Prematurity, Hope”

Abstract

2012년 11월11일, 대한신생아학회가 주관한 제1회 "이른둥이 희망찾기" 캠페인이 서울 삼성동 섬유센터에서 개최 되었다. 이 자리에는 이른둥이로 출생했던 약 100여명의 아동들과 그 가족뿐만 아니라 정관계, NGO, 언론계, 학회 회원 등 약 330여명이 참석했는데, 1993년 대한신생아학회 창립이래 가장 큰 대국민 행사로, 11월 17일인 "World Prematurity Day"에 앞서 열렸다. 이 캠페인은 저출산 시대에 이른둥이 출산율은 지속적으로 증가하고 있으나, 이들에 대한 국가사회적 관심과지원이 미미하기에 "저출산 해결은 출생한 이른둥이부터 건강하게 키워야 한다"라는 구호아래 시작되었고, 이를 통해 이른둥이에 대한 대국민 인식개선, 이른둥이와 부모에게 자신감 고취, 이른둥이에 대한 올바른 건강정보 제공 등, 이른둥이를 위한 국가사회적 관심과 지원을 이끌어내기 위함이었다. 이 캠페인은 첫 행사임에도 불구하고 다양한 매체를 통해 국민들에게 전달되었고, 국가사회적 관심과 반향을 이끌었다. 이 글을 통해 이번 캠페인의 배경과 목적, 준비와 진행, 결산과 의미, 앞으로의 과제 등에 대해 알아보고자 한다.The Korean Society of Neonatology launched the 1st Korean Prematurity Day, so called "Prematurity, Hope" campaign on November 11, 2012, just before the World Prematurity Day of November 17 which was launched in 2011. There were about 330 attendees including about 100 previous premature infants and their families, Minister of Health and Welfare and government officers, Members of National Assembly, Members of Korean Society of Neonatology and other medical societies, reporters and journalists. The campaign was the biggest event of the Korean Society of Neonatology to the public since the establishment of Korean Society of Neonatology in 1993. While Korean birth rate has been dropping these days, preterm birth rate keeps increasing. However, our socioeconomic support for health of premature infants is insufficient. A purpose of the campaign was that top priority to solve low-birthrate has to be the health of premature infant in Korea. The campaign has been accomplished successfully. We hope that it would have a better effect on preterm infants' families, communities, health policy of government and medical environment for preterm infant care. We describe the background, purpose, preparation, progress, outcomes and future plans of the "Prematurity, Hope" Campaign.
