Primary Ductal Adenocarcinoma of the Lacrimal Gland, associated with Abundant Intracytoplasmic Lumens containing Some Eosinophilic Hyaline Globules: Cytological, Histological and Ultrastructural Findings

Abstract

A primary ductal adenocarcinoma (PDA) of the lacrimal gland is a rare distinct subtype of an epithelial tumor arising in the lacrimal gland. PDA is the counterpart of salivary duct carcinoma (SDC) resembling an invasive ductal carcinoma (IDC) of the breast. In our case, PDA revealed histopathological and immunohistochemical results corresponding to SDC. Interestingly, the tumor cells showed intracytoplasmic vacuoles containing dense eosinophilic hyaline globules at light microscopy. Ultrastructurally, the tumor cells exhibited microvilli-lined intracytoplasmic lumen containing homogenous electron-dense secretory products. A previous study demonstrated that numerous intracytoplasmic lumens of tumor cells are favored breast malignant tumor, similar to the histopathology of PDA, rather than benign lesion. This characteristic finding may be meaningful to diagnose high grade epithelial tumors including PDA.눈물선의 중요한 췌장관 선암 (PDA는) 눈물선에 에피트헬셜 종양 발생의 드문 특징적 서브타입이다. PDA는 가슴의 침습성의 관 암종 (IDC)를 닮는 타액관암 (SDC)의 대응부이다. 우리의 경우에서, PDA는 SDC에 해당한 히스토파트홀오기칼과 면역 조직화학적 결과를 밝혔다. 재미있게, 종양 세포는 광학 현미경법에 있는 밀집하는 호산구성 히알린 혈구를 포함하는 세포질 내 액포를 보여주었다. 초구조적으로, 종양 세포는 호모지니우스 전자밀도 분비 생성물을 포함하는 미세융모 일직선 세포질내 루멘을 나타냈다. 종양 세포의 다수 세포질내 루멘이 양성 병변보다 오히려, PDA의 조직 병리학과 유사한 호감을 사고 있는 가슴 악성 종양이라고 이전 연구는 증명했다. 이 특징적 결정은 PDA를 포함하여 우수하 상피성 종양을 진단하도록 의미심장할지도 모른다.
