dc.description.abstractIt is believed that the green neighborhood certification is effective to achieve the low carbon city. There are many researches on green building certification including LEED, BREEAM, and CASBEE etc. However, the literature shows that little attention has been given to the green certification in the level of neighborhood unit, which is the basic spatial unit of a city. The paper attempts to present a structure of the green certification for neighborhood through 4 steps as follows. The first step is to define the spatial boundary of the neighborhood. The second step is to specify the mechanism of carbon generation within the neighborhood. The third step is to establish the framework for the certification. Specifically the framework consists of 5 sectors including industry sector, transport sector, household sector, sink sector and planning sector. The last step is to derive evaluation items for each sector. Finally, to enhance the applicability of the framework presented the paper suggests a two-step evaluation system, i.e., preliminary certification and main certification.en_US
