李森煥의 교유와 문학 활동

Abstract

李森煥(1729∼1813)은 본관은 驪州이고 자는 子木, 호는 少眉이다. 그는 다방면에서 활발하게 활약했다. 정약용과 함께 星湖疾書의 교정에 주도적으로 참여하였고, 서학의 교리를 비판한 ?洋學辨? 을 지었으며, 의학에도 조예가 깊어 『痲科彙編』을 연구하여 병에 걸린 마을 사람들을 구제하기도 했다. 이삼환은 『金三品』을 통해 科文의 제한된 투식에서 벗어나 다양한 문학적 실험의 가능성을 모색하였고, 또 일종의 아동 교육서인 『百家衣』(附: ?句讀指南?)를 통해 한문 교육에 대한 나름의 견해를 보여주는 등 저술 관련 업적을 몇 가지 남기고 있다. 뿐만 아니라 여러 기록을 통해 禮學에 조예가 깊었던 것을 공통적으로 확인할 수 있는데, 『시경』에 대한 색다른 해석을 두고 다산이 극찬하기도 했다. 문인으로서의 모습은 아직 여실히 정리되어 있지 않지만 그의 문학적 성취도 예사롭지 않다. 정범조는 이삼환이 쓴 韓光迪의 제문을 王世貞의 ?哭宗子相?에 견주기도 했다. 지금은 불행하게도 전해지지 않지만 ?上韓禮安光傅書?, ?祭李參奉匡呂文?은 당시 士友에게 傳誦될 만큼 문학성이 뛰어난 작품들이었다. 그는 탄탄한 家學의 전통을 이어 받은 인물이다. 넓게는 여주이씨 문인, 좁게는 이익에게 많은 영향을 받았다. 그중 禮學에 상당히 특장이 있었으나, 지금 많은 자료가 남아 있지 않아 확인할 수 없는 점이 안타깝다. 그에게 가장 문학적인 영향을 많이 끼친 인물로는 이용휴를 들 수 있다. 사적으로도 집안 일을 맡길 정도로 각별했던 사이였다. 이삼환은 이용휴를 통해 신광수, 신광하, 정범조, 채제공, 허필 등 걸출한 인물들과 교분을 맺었다. 혜환의 아들인 이가환과도 가까웠다. 여주일문의 끈끈한 유대는 『섬사편』에서도 확인할 수 있는데, 여기에 그들의 교유와 문학활동이 상세히 보인다. 이삼환의 문집에는 채제공, 신광수, 신광하, 신석상, 정약용 등이 등장한다. 이중 石北家와의 교분은 주목을 요한다. 신광수, 신광하 형제와, 신광수의 아들인 신석상, 신우상 등과 교유를 이어나갔다. 그중 신석상과는 가장 친밀한 관계에 있었다. 또, 다산 정약용도 빼놓을 수 없는 인물이다. 이삼환은 서학강독회를 주도적으로 이끌어 나갔다. 다산은 직접 모임에 참석하지는 않았지만 여기에 관여 하였으며 ?서학강학기?를 썼다. 이삼환은 다산을 통해서 이유수, 한치응, 윤지범 등 죽란시사의 인물들과 교분을 맺었다. 본 연구는 이삼환 연구를 위한 예비적 작업에 해당한다. 그에 대한 당대인의 평가와 그가 맺고 있는 교유를 통해서 그의 위상을 정리해 보았다. 이것을 바탕으로 그의 시문에 대한 본격적인 연구는 후고를 통해 밝히려 한다.The family clan of Yi Samhwan(1729~1813) is Gyeongju Yi. His courtesy name is Jamok and his pen name is Somi. He inherited the strong scholastic enthusiasm from his clan. He was influenced by the literary artists from Yeoju Yi clan in broader aspects and by Yi Ik in narrower aspects. Yi Yonghu was the person who had the most significant influence on him in terms of literature. Yi Samhwan built the social relationship with the prominent figures through Yi Yonghu. He also had the close relationship with Yi Gahwan, the son of Yi Hyehwan. The strong bond among the family clans based on Yeoju was also confirmed in his works "Seomsapyeon." Seomsapyeon described the social and literary activities among them in detail.The collection of Yi Samhwan's works described the poets from Namin(southern faction). The social relationship with Seok Bukga of those poets required the special attention. He continued the social relationship with the brothers Shin Gwangsu and Shin Gwangha, and Shin Seoksam and Shin Wusang, the sons of Shin Gwangsu. Shin Seoksang was the closest person. Furthermore, Jeong Yakyong shall be mentioned. Yi Samhwan took the lead of Seohak(western learning) reading meeting. Dasan didn't show him up in the meeting, but published "Seohakganghakgi(western learning journal)" as being involved in Seohak reading meetings. Yi Samhwan could build the relationship with people of Jukransisa(literature writing club) through Dasan.This paper is the preliminary research for investigating Yi Samhwan. The social position of Yi Samhwan was summarized by the assessment of people on him in their time and his social relationship. On the basis of the summary, the further study will thoroughly investigae his poem and literature.
