교사협력 학교풍토와 학습자 자율성 촉진 교수: 아시아 태평양 세 국가를 중심으로

Abstract

본 연구는 교사가 어떠한 학교환경에서 학습자의 자율성을 촉진하는 방식의 교수 활동에 보다 적극적으로 참여하는지 탐색하는 데 목적이 있다. 특히 교사 간 협력을 교수 불확실성을 효과적으로 관리해주는 기제로 해석하는 관점에서, 학교의 교사협 력 풍토 수준이 교사의 학습자 자율성 촉진 교수활동 정도에 어떠한 영향을 미치는 지 검토하고자 한다. 이를 위해 OECD 주관의 Teaching and Learning International Survey 2008 데이터 가운데 아시아 태평양 국가인 한국, 호주, 말레이시아 사례를 각각 분석하였고, 중학교 479곳의 교사 7,716명이 분석대상에 포함되었다. 학교 및 교사 수준 변인을 동시에 고려한 위계적 선형 모형 분석 결과, 사회·문화적으로 상 이한 세 국가 모두에서 일관성 있게 교사협력 학교풍토 수준이 높을수록 소속 학교 교사가 학습자의 자율성을 촉진하는 방식의 교수활동에 참여할 가능성이 유의미하 게 높은 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과는 최근 교육개혁 흐름에서 그 중요성이 대두 되고 있는 학습자 자율성 촉진 교수활동을 격려하기 위한 학교환경 조건으로서 협 력적인 학교풍토의 형성이 중요한 과제임을 시사한다.As a systematic effort to empirically examine how school teachers’ use of autonomy-supportive instruction is influenced by school climate, this study conducted a series of hierarchical linear modeling analyses based on a multi-level sample of 7,716 teachers across 479 middle schools in Australia, Malaysia and South Korea. Data for the study were from the OECD Teaching and Learning International Survey 2008. The main findings from this study lend credence to the hypothesis that teachers who work in a collegial climate are significantly more likely to integrate instructional strategies to foster learner autonomy into their classroom teaching. This sheds light on the possibility that teachers may find themselves more successful in their effort to manage instructional uncertainty when working in a collegial climate. This result is very suggestive, considering that the effect of the collegial climate on teachers’ use of autonomy-supportive instruction appears quite consistent across all three countries analyzed despite the fact that the three countries exhibit quite different sociocultural characteristics.
