휘발유가격의 비대칭성에 관한 국제 비교

Abstract

석유시장에서는 가격 비대칭성에 대한 논란이 지속적으로 존재하여 왔다. 본 연구에서는 비대칭 오차수정모형(ECM)을 활용하여 뉴질랜드, 일본, 캐나다, 한국의 휘발유시장에서 비대칭적 가격행태를 분석한다. 분석기간은 2005년 1월부터 2013년 12월까지이고, 표본자료는 주간 평균 보통휘발유가격을 사용한다. 실증분석의 초점은 MOPS 혹은 Dubai 가격의 변동에 대한 휘발유 소매가격의 변동을 분석하는 데 있다. 이와 함께, 석유시장 마진과 석유가격 및 환율의 변동성이 가격 비대칭성에 어떠한 영향을 미치는가를 실증적으로 분석한다.In the petroleum markets, there have been continuing debates about price asymmetries. This study adopts an asymmetric error correction model (ECM) to describe asymmetric price behavior in the gasoline markets of New Zealand, Japan, Canada, and South Korea. This model is estimated on the weekly data set of regular unleaded gasoline over the period covering January 2005 to December 2013. The model tries to capture the temporal responses of domestic retail prices to the changes in the MOPS gasoline and Dubai crude oil prices. This study also investigates how the margins and the volatilities of prices and exchange rates influence the price asymmetry.
