Abstract
The present study explores how 4- to 6-year-oldKorean children comprehend four types of relative clauses which are varied by the semantic prominence of the head noun and the type of relative clause (i.e., subject relative clause vs. object relative clause). Results from a picture-selection task confirm the effects of semantic prominence and relative clause types on comprehension of relative clauses. They also demonstrate age-related variations that younger children are more dependent on the semantic prominence of the head noun while older children are more affected by the type of relative clause.
