- Abstract
- This article attempts a study on national origin of Uzbek-Tajik, examining particularly historical debates after independence. This paper aims to evaluate historical debate regarding to Arian culture, Samanid dynasty and the unsolved territorial dispute between Uzbekistan and Tajikistan. For Uzbeks, acquiring an Aryan past means, establishing their status as “indigenous peoples,” thereby Uzbek historians legitimized their right to build states of their own in what appear to be their “Aryan roots” also give the Turkic peoples an honorable place in Uzbekistan history. Above all, I concentrated on the concept of “Aryan” of the Tajikistan historians. They asserted “Aryan” peoples as the ancestors of Tajik peoples. The popularity of “Aryan” identity was the cultural and historical meaning given to that identity in the colonial era. Aryan image was linked with the contemporary civilization and distinguish oneself from the Asiatic image, therefore Tajik historians very strongly emphasized this image. Above all, I concentrated on Tajik historians` concepts relating to Arian tradition and Samanids dynasty. Chapter II examines historical debate on the origin of Nations between Uzbek and Tajik peoples. Chapter III investigates territorial debate between Uzbek - Tajik. Chapter IV reviews historical debate on the Aryanism. Chapter V retrospects historical debate on Samanids dynasty.
