Abstract
This study treats an optimization of material arrangement to reduce weight of automotive Body In White (BIW). Since production cost can be decreased and fuel efficiency and ride & handling performance can be improved by reducing weight of automobile, weight reduction of the automobile is steadily tried in automobile industry. Especially, weight reduction of BIW made a great contribution to the total weight reduction, since BIW takes a large portion of total weight. This study aims to reduce weight of the automotive BIW by appropriate selection of steel, aluminum and magnesium for each panel consisting of BIW. To carry out material arrangement optimization, we formulate a design problem to reduce weight of BIW while satisfying constraints about bending and torsional stiffness and carried out metamodel-based design optimization.
