1940년대 식민지 조선의 국책 극영화 속 경성 - <지원병>(1941)과 <조선해협>(1943)을 중심으로

Abstract

본 연구에서는 군사 동원 정책을 다룬 국책 극영화 <지원병>(1941)과 <조선해협>(1943)을 중심으로, 1940년대 식민지 조선 영화 속 경성에 대해 고찰하였다. 이들 텍스트가 ‘경성’이라는 특정 공간을 어떻게 활용함으로써 스토리를 구성하고 스타일을 형성하며 메시지를 발산하는지에 관해 분석하였다. 그 결과는 다음과 같이 요약된다. 첫째, 두 영화에서 경성은 현실 문제의 발생 장소이자 해결 장소라는 이중적 성격을 띠며 등장한다. 이는 1930년대 조선 발성영화의 서사적 전통과 구별되는 지점이다. 둘째, <지원병>의 경우 스토리 전개 상 필수적인 장면이 아닌 경성 거리신의 삽입을 통해, <조선해협>에서는 주요 공간적 배경이 경성으로 설정되고 시가장면이 강조됨에 따라, 경성은 식민지 동원 정책에 대한 실현의 장으로서 이미지화된다. 셋째, <지원병>의 춘호는 경성행 열차에 올라 훈련소로 향하는 반면 <조선해협>의 세이키는 훈련소를 나와 경성발 열차를 타고 전장으로 이동한다는 점에서 차이를 보이기도 하나, 두 작품 모두 주인공 남성의 입대를 통해 세대를 초월한 전쟁참여와 국책 협력을 유도한다는 면에서는 궤를 같이한다. 여기서도 경성은 훈련소와 기차역을 포괄하며 제국의 통로이자 전장에의 파견지로서 특별하게 제시된다. I analyzed the representation and signification of Gyeongseong(Seoul) in <Volunteer>(1941) and <Straits of Joseon>(1943) that feature films advocated the military mobilization policy of colonial power. The result of research is summarized as the next. First, Gyeongseong is set as dual space where practical problems appear and get solved in these texts. This point is different from the occasion of the Joseon's film drama in 1930s. Second, the scene of Gyeongseong which is not essential to the storyline is inserted in <Volunteer>. And, Gyeongseong is set to the main spatial background of <Straits of Joseon>. Because of these, Gyeongseong is described the place where the colonial mobilization policy could be realized. Third, <Volunteer>(1941) and <Straits of Joseon>(1943) as propaganda melodrama emphasize the national participation and collaboration to war beyond generations. Gyeongseong is presented as the passage of Imperial Japan and the place of dispatch to the battlefield in that time.
