중화(中華) 민족주의와 동아시아 문화갈등: 역사와 문화의 경계짓기

Abstract

본 연구는 최근 동아시아 지역에서 심화되고 있는 문화갈등을 중화(中華) 민족주의와의 관계 속에서 살펴보고자 한다. 본 연구는 아직까지 중국에는 55개 소수민족을 모두 아우르는 중국민족이 존재하지 않는다는 전제에서 출발한다. 중국민족이 존재하지 않기 때문에 민족국가는 성립될 수 없다는 것이다. 따라서 중화 민족주의의 핵심이 바로 56개 전체 민족에게 ‘상상되는(imagined)’ 중국민족의 형성에 있다고 보고, 중국 정부가 국가 안의 모든 구성원들에게 상상되는 중국민족 즉, ‘중화민족(中華民族)’을 인위적으로 형성하고자 하는 과정에서 동아시아 주변국들과의 문화갈등을 야기하고 있다고 본다. 이를 위해서 본 연구는 민족주의 발생의 기본적 원칙에서부터 시작해서 1980년대 말부터 부상하고 있는 중화 민족주의가 어떻게 동아시아 문화갈등을 심화시키고 있는지를 연역적으로 도출해볼 것이다.This paper reviews the cultural conflicts of 'Sinocentric nationalism' in East Asia, where the cultural conflicts have recently increased, and as a result have caused serious diplomatic problems. This study starts from the presupposition that China doesn't have a single Chinese nation that includes 55 ethnic minorities as well as the Han majority. Therefore, this study suggests that the main purpose of 'Sinocentric nationalism' from the late 1980s has been to make the Chinese nation 'imagined' to all the ethnic minorities in her territory. This has created an artificial manipulation by the Chinese government and the artificial manipulation has caused cultural conflicts with the surrounding nations in East Asia.
