Abstract
This paper proposes a new design process of a one-time-use leaping mechanism for the relocation of energy-constrained sensor nodes. The proposed mechanism is expected to enhance coverage and connectivity of the sensor network with minimum energy consumed. Coordinated relocation of sensor nodes that monitor physical environments is remarkably emphasized under uncertain environmental condition. Therefore, we consider how the wind affects a node’ flight and how such disturbance can be minimized with an optimized launch angle. To find a design solution effectively, process integration and design optimization(PIDO) technology is applied to the design of the leaping mechanism. In this research, we not only obtain the optimum solution satisfying all imposed requirements, but also propose the systematic design procedure for robotic mechanisms using PIDO technology.
