사회자본이 교육성과에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구 - 사교육의 매개효과를 중심으로 -

Abstract

본 연구는 교육성과에 대한 사회자본의 영향을 살펴보려는데 그 주된 목적이 있으며, 추가적으로 사교육의 매개효과 및 그들의 상대적 중요성이 어느 정도인가를 파악하고자 하였다. 이를 검증하기 위하여 2009년 5월부터 2009년 6월까지 서울시 중·고등학교 학생들을 대상으로 실시한 설문자료를 토대로 분석하였다. 연구결과 첫째, 가족 사회자본의 구조와 과정, 학교 사회자본의 과정 및 지역 사회자본의 과정변수만 직·간접적으로 교육성과에 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 교육성과에 직·간접적으로 영향을 미치는 변수들의 상대적 기여도는 가족 사회자본의 과정(β=.238), 지역 사회자본의 과정(β=.209), 가족 사회자본의 구조(β=.206), 학교 사회자본의 과정(β=.130), 학교 사회자본의 구조(β=-.012) 등의 순으로 나타났다. 셋째, 사교육은 교육성과에 직접적으로 부(-)적인 영향을 미쳤으나 가족 사회자본의 구조와 과정, 학교 사회자본의 과정 및 지역 사회자본의 과정변수들과 결합되었을 때, 교육성과에 정(+)적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과들은 청소년들의 교육성과 향상에 있어서 일시적인 사교육비 투자보다 사회자본이라는 사회전반의 교육환경의 개선에 의해 이루어져야 할 필요성과 교육개혁 및 교육복지 강화를 위한 정책 수립 시 가족, 학교 및 지역 사회자본 축적의 중요성 및 그들 간의 협력의 지원체계 구축의 필요성이 강조된다고 볼 수 있다. The aim of this study is to examine the effects of social capital on educational performance. Additionally this study examines the mediating effect of private education on educational performance, and compares the relative importances of these factors. For this study, a survey was conducted on middle and high school students in Seoul from May to June, 2009. The results show that. first, the family social capital structure and process, the school social capital process, and the community social capital process directly and indirectly affect educational performance. Second, the relative effects among the social capital variables that affect educational performance directly and indirectly ordered as follows: family social capital process(β=.238), community social capital process(β=.209), family social capital structure(β=.206), school social capital process(β=.130), and school social capital structure(β=-.012). Finally, private education as an isolated parameter has a directly negative effect on educational performance, but when combined with the family social capital structure and process, the school social capital process, and the community social capital process, it turns out that private education has a positive effect on educational performance. These results imply that policy makers should increase the social capital instead of private education to improve the educational performance of middle and high school students.
